The winner of this game might end up being the dark horse candidate for the MIAA title.

So far defense ranked 24. Offense ranked 40. That's if you put any stock into these rankings...

I'd say the start of this year has sort of reflected last year in that the offense has struggled at times but has taken care of the ball decently (one lost fumble and an interception in an end-of-half hail mary situation). The defense will give up some big plays and long drives here and there, but they can also get after the quarterback and force turnovers (5 interceptions and a fumble recovery).

Isaiah Harris is one of the best running backs in the conference. He had a career-high 165 yards against Wayne, although Chadron did a better job of containing him (64 yards). Our starting QB will still be out for a few weeks at least, but Abram Scholting is a capable replacement. This will be his third career start, and he finished the game against Wayne. He hasn't necessarily stood out on the stat sheet but has shown potential as both a passer and runner. The wide receiver who has stood out is Jaden Jude, a transfer from UT-Chattanooga.

The defense doesn't have a stand-out player like they had last year in Q Felton, but it's just a solid group with a lot of playmakers.

In Hays, the defense will need to continue the early-season trend of forcing turnovers, and the offense will need to show a little more consistency and sustain some drives. They've been a little too stagnant at times for my liking.

Hays seems to have our number and finds ways to prevail against us, so I'd consider us underdogs for sure. Hopefully, we can keep it a game into the fourth quarter and see what happens from there.
            Thanks for the response.
If you make the trip enjoy Hays. It's a good town. Probably be lots of people tailgating this early in the season.

                      FHSU 26, UNK 7.

Lopers fall to 2-1 (0-1). The defense played pretty well all things considered. The offense was poor.

Important game at home next week against Emporia to try to regain some momentum.

I spent the night in Hays just driving through last Summer. I was surprised. It felt like the town embraced the university quite a bit which I can appreciate.

I found the same thing when I traveled there for my daughter's BB games. Hays is bigger than I would have thought too. Seems like a good college town.
