Johnny Mac needs to take the deep pass into the endzone out of Chris’ playbook. Today’s INT looked like a last second Hail Mary pass. Other than that he played great. Don’t know if ZO is hurt, fumbled too much last week or CR was playing too good but he only saw the field after CR got dinged

Everytime I try to figure out why Ruhnke throws a ball that is intercepted I get a headache. The throw near the end of the half was a terrible read and a worse throw. We didn't need that call or that throw at that particular point in the half. We were in good field position with 39 seconds left and the wind at our back. At some point in time, NW is gonna have to kick a FG. We had time for less risky throws and if needed, attempt a FG. At least it's still a chance at points. Interceptions give you no chance for points. NW has a lot to clean up yet offensively and special teams.

Dom has made receiving punts way too nerve wracking lately.

I think ZO is in the doghouse.

Did you hear something or just guessing ... as opposed to the possibility he may have simply tweaked something injury-wise and HC JMac made the choice to keep ZO on the sidelines? Regardless, this question about ZO is what I get frustrated with when it comes to D2 football. If it was D1, the papers would have the story. Time to suck it up and just spill what the hell is up with these dopey mysteries about a given player projected to start the game being kept from the fans ... Bearcat fans ... and then we see him standing on the sidelines the "entire" game. Bearcat fans can handle the truth. And, if ZO did something a bit stupid outside practice that kept him from getting his playing time, then just say it was a "disciplinary" issue. Don't need the specifics. Plenty of adults on the NW Alumni side of the West Grandstands who are plenty able to handle the updates. Frickin' hate gossip (Nothing at all about what you said, KPKCBC). This is on the coaches. Treat the Alumni base with a little respect. As for these Bearcat players, if they are facing some disciplinary issues with the team, they should know by now there are such things as consequences in life. That should speak volumes for our Bearcat players. It happens. Bearcat fans don't need the specifics, but some clarification about the player's availability on game day should be made available to the fans. Injury ... disciplinary ... etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah, whatever. I should also clarify that I completely understand any decision made by HC JMac 'pregame" vs ESU about his reasons for keeping ZO on the sideline, as it simply offers assistance to ESU's coaching staff and game planning without ZO in lineup. But, come postgame ... time to come clean and let the fans know. Hope ZO is ok. Pretty solid game by Ruhnke. Bearcats need both these guys come playoff time. Good win today, Bearcats!

I think the answer to this one has already come from Coach Mac:

A couple of weeks ago, Coach noted that he wouldn’t play a player who couldn’t hang onto or protect the ball. As much success as ZO has had, there are two or three things at play here:

                      1. After last week’s game, who had the higher risk of turnovers or more turnovers in a single game? ZO.
                      2. ZO is also a frosh. So you pull him and coach him on protecting the rock, and you roll the dice that Runke won’t throw picks in the meantime.
                      3. This is just a gut feeling on my part, but Coach Mac is already looking ahead to the possibility of a playoff run, and between Runke and ZO, ZO is probably the better QB of the two. The last thing you want is him getting injured during the regular season and having to rely on Runke during a run. So probably expect the platooning to continue, and expect the team to ease ZO back into playing time as he demonstrates he can protect the ball.

I'm just speculating based on what coach Mac has said since day 1. You can't turn the ball over and expect to play. If he's not getting more PT this week then I dunno because it's not like CR is Mr. Ball Security.

A rumor I have heard from more than one person close to the team is Michigan is sniffing around ZO.

I'm just asking here, not insinuating, but are you saying the NW coach isn't playing him so he has to stay?

Oh, no, no..... It's just something I heard. The first time I heard I was just kinda like, "Oh really ok" Then I heard it a couple more times and it raises an eyebrow. I wouldn't argue the rumor isn't absolute BS either.

this thread lol. benched for turning the ball over so they can play the dude who frankly turns it over regularly. possible i guess but i’m skeptical - quotes like that are coachspeak. now in his defense & to his credit jmac has gotten them to turn it over less but his options are limited.

as for the possibility of a transfer zo doesn’t look like a d1 arm but some other position sure i’ll buy that perhaps. he can certainly run it. i wouldn’t have guessed it bc he’s not played that much but there’s probably a previous relationship if that rumor is true.

we play both guys. probably bc of contrasting styles & each has their limitations. we attacked es a certain way & after the game got out of hand making a change may not have made sense. the offense changes with each in the game so it may be a week to week thing depending on the matchup &/or how the games go.

props to pp re: your 45 point forecast needed for an es win that was on the nose. kpkcbc will speak for himself but i didn’t infer what you did, nor does such a notion make a shred of sense.

No idea why Michigan would be sniffing around ZO this year. He wasn't that heavily recruited out of HS, didn't have any D1 offers that I know of. Plus, UoM has Underwood and Kirk Herbstreit's son both being freshmen there and with their NIL pockets, could get 100 better players than ZO. And that's no shot at ZO. Portal changes everything, but he's had a couple of good games in spit time this year. Not blowing up any D1 staffer phones yet. Hopefully he can get that good to where we actually have to worry.
