RMAC guy (CSU Pueblo fan) here. Sucks that they're dropping football. As to a potential GNAC-RMAC football merger, I would love an excuse to go to Pacific Northwest every year. I just wish Ellensburg were closer to SeaTac. But the travel would suck for everyone involved. LSC-GNAC seems even more problematic. Its a LOOOOOONNNNNG way from Kingsville to Burnaby, even though I know the Javelinas made that trek last season.

CWU and WWU were in the NCC when it still existed and they made it work. But you're right, the RMAC won't be picking up the GNAC schools for football. They have no reason too.

I think the key moving forward is for the mayor of Arcata (if he/she is good) to meet with the next president and try and get football back. Now, I know, many small town mayors don't have a lot of influence and often go along to get along with the college, the college president and staff in their towns. I understand that relationship having lived in a few college towns. However, Humboldt State football is a big community event -- the biggest community event in the GNAC -- and I doubt Arcata has any event that draws 7,000 people. If I was an Arcata businessman, I'd be livid. They have to take a huge hit in sales (especially motels and eateries) just because the college admin didn't want football?! They should be furious.

But like small town mayors, small town Chambers of Commerces also don't have much influence. The people of the town of Arcata need to help bring back football. I'm surprised the business people aren't more angry ... or maybe they are and just haven't been interviewed. Wait till next year when motels and restaurants are near-empty on weekends.

Brandon or JR may be able to help you, but sad to see you go. I don't blame you though for giving up on football there before the last game is played as it means you aren't giving them another dime through gate fees or concessions.

Even if MSU-Mankato dropped football- and they did the season after I graduated- I'll still follow D2. I love football- it is my favorite sport. Can't imagine fall without it- I'd still watch other teams.

I wonder if the order to drop football came from above HSU completely (the only Cal State schools that have football are San Jose State, Fresno State, and Sacramento State, all of which are D1 (the first two of those being FBS))

Don't forget San Diego State, which arguably has the best football program of all the schools in the Cal State system. Otherwise, it's hard to say whether the order came from higher up the Cal State food chain but it wouldn't shock me; academic types tend to look down their noses at football, like we should all be into watching a rousing chess match instead.

Morningside was last D2 in spring of 2001 and Brandon hasn't gotten rid of me yet!
