Not surprised by the move, the last two seasons have been a bit lackluster and a change is needed to build on what Tom Shea has done at UIU. He did a great job in making UIU competitive in D2 and stabilizing the program. UIU has challenges in terms of location and size, but yet was able to compete at a lower scholarship level and put a pretty darn good team on the field for many of the years he was there. I've seen a lot of bad UIU football prior to the move to D2 - but what he and his staff have accomplished - especially during the run of 6-5 seasons should be applauded. Timing is right - and am glad to see them allow him to transition gracefully. A job well done - some great football, players, and growth in the program since he took over!

Why not open the search up?
It's a pretty unusual arrangement all the way around, with the former coach staying on as a "special advisor."

I honestly think when we get to 13 they'll nix the divisions and go to a 10 game conf schedule with rotation of who you play (won't play 3 teams each year) and then have one non-conference game....which many have wanted as well. That makes the most sense and would even out the imbalance of North vs. South teams.
