Best case scenario is a low scoring, low possession game on Thursday night. Keep that clock running as much as possible.
Apparently it was down to Vespo and the new guy. I think the offense will be pretty good this year even with the loss of Dway and Larson. That’s if we can figure out the QB position which I hope is somewhat solidified after this game. Defense I think will
be decent as well although I think we may struggle with the d-tackles a bit. Not much depth or size there.

My second cousin made the two deeps at wr so that is exciting.

I fully understand the game is out of hand, but the effort Hackel is putting in with a minimal amount of opportunity is frustrating for a competitive person to see. Like, his play action is hand off, turn and watch the play and then fake throw into the ground as the whistle ends the play.

I'd like to see him trying to grind and lead and give max effort for the small window of playing time thay he got. You have to seize any opportunity you can find.

Overall, i didnt expect much different of this game. The depth between these two levels is so massive. Some big blunders by the Wolves on kick/punt returns, the special teams in general was not good. They ran hard on offense, they played tough as they could on D. I didn't see a lot of dumb penalties or immaturity on the field really, so all in all, we can be encouraged to have a decent season or at least the hope, but we might as well be running a mid 90s triple option offense because there isn't much there in the passing game.

Well, kinda hard to know what to take out of game 1. Generally it went as I expected. The USD OL/DL and special teams were just on another level, as they should be. I’m excited to see Kraft in the NSIC. I think he could be quite good this year. Adams could be NSIC DPOY good at LB.

Tough game to judge Britt. He looks very mobile and his running could be a real threat. However, I don’t think he made any throws downfield. That could be a function of not having enough time, or the WR not being able to get open, or maybe he just doesn’t do it. I don’t know.

Overall, I guess I actually feel a little better than I did preseason. Next week is a HUGE game. USF, at home, at night. Need to have it. Although I think USF will be much improved from last season. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there to see it in person next week.

A few thoughts from last night.

1). Neither team was showing much in this game as both were preparing for next week.
2). I do not like Britt’s throwing motion one bit. He pushes the ball somewhat which will lead to the ball sailing on him. The one long throw he had did just that and let to an interception. QB play right now I see as a struggle especially since Vespo left the team
3). Wolves Special teams were atrocious. 21 points can be attributed to them.
            4) Although USD was clearly being conservative on offense I thought the Wolves defense played pretty well. Especially early. As always tends to happen these games the lack of depth starts to wear down the lower level school later in the game.
5). Playing an opponent like USD early I think puts the Wolves in a good spot going into next weeks game against USF.

Outside of special teams and QB play I was pretty encouraged. I thought we looked fairly solid on offense and defense.

Without a doubt the special teams was bad last night. Some of that can be chalked up to the difference in rosters from the FCS to D2 levels. Some of it was just sloppy play. I don't expect it to be that bad going forward. I guess Vespo leaving explains why he didn't play as #2 last night. NSU is going to have a very different offense this year from the last few seasons. It doesn't appear we have a QB that can throw the ball downfield or WR that can stretch the field (man we were spoiled with Ingram and Larson).

I wouldn't put too much stock into the lack of downfield throws last week. Drop back passing clearly isn't something they wanted to run as the DL of USD would be able to tee off on Britt. Was really impressed with how he moved and ran. I'm sure the throwing will come around just fine. I came away from last week feeling very encouraged. Defense played hard and didn't really let USD get any big plays and even created a couple of sacks and TFLs. USD played starters well into the 4th and still didn't have much big play success against our 2nd stringers. Gunderson and Adams are studs. Also, didn't expect to see Gabe Gutierrez this year and certainly not opening night. Think he can have a massive impact.

From all accounts it seems we came out relatively healthy. Kraft never came back after halftime, which is concerning and will be interested to see his status for Saturday. While discussing the RB position, I think Noah Smith needs to get the ball as well. He was the 4th RB to rotate in, but he showed some burst that I don't think any of our backs have. Would be nice to find a way to get the ball into his hands more in space if the WR continue to struggle.

                Now onto conference play!

Looking forward to tonights game. Will be able to truly see how we look. I am concerned about the QB position. I feel the staff is trying to force Britt being the starter and I’m not sure he’s the guy.

Above all else, can we not where black jerseys with thay pant/helmet combo again? We have such nice colors and the mix of uniform combos is so poor.

Welp, what are we taking away fromt his one?

USF certainly was overpowering up front but honesly, their offense wasn't really THAT impressive. Their RB could stiff arm his way through a redwood, but still, Wolves D isn't atrocious. It's the big plays and the poor pursuit angles. You clean that up and we have ourselves a pretty solid defense. Not deep, which is another issue, but you can't really fix that in season.

Offensively, Wolves run the ball hard. I knownit was mostly against 2nd team, but with Hackel in there was a little bit of tempo and energy. I personally hope they stil with him.

It's hard to really be checked in with a lopsided game, but if you are going to run play action you have got to atleast put some effort into selling it. That was sloppy with Colton and with Britt in both games.

Though Lee Keller was probably half way pregamed for his 1999 squad get together, what he said about getting something and stacking small w's is dead on. Win one play, then win another. You will not win an entire game on a big play in the 1st.

I tell my kids all the time, be a great teammate firat amd foremost. If you focus on the team there will always be a positive to draw from and feed off of. If you focus on yourself, there is going to be, at minimum, an equal number of bad vs. good that comes from it.

I had a former player text me about all this money and upgrades shoudl have been Doschs to try and win with. It is what it is at this point but we seem to still be regressing from the 2020 recruiting barrage.

In the end, I hope we keep the hopes and goals high, despite the amount of know it alls on here telling us we need to be content with mediocrity.

We might have the worst football team in the conference and we worried about uniforms?

I’m so pumped we built this brand new facility to hire a garbage coach who can’t recruit or build a team. No wonder all the fans leave the game in the third quarter every game.

Surprised you watched a minute of it

Worst in the conference is a bit of a stretch, I'm not convinced USF I'd winning the NSIC but they will be in a battle in minimum. USD is ranked in the top five of FCS so im not sure what you expected exactly.

With all due respect, we are talking about college football players who think they deserve the world now with NIL. There is no we did this well against the 2nd teamers, ran the ball well this one time on the first drive. This falls squarely on the coaching staff and their inability to have a gold mine recruiting facility to develop players. I hope this AD has a short leash. Things are getting worse before getting better.

I don’t think anybody on here is content with mediocrity. Northen football has been mediocre or below average forever. Things aren’t changing soon. Tyrone Morgan isn’t walking through these doors.

Multiple years of bad football by the same administration. You can’t expect different results when you continue to do the same thing repeatedly. How about show up on opening night?

Your pro team hasn't been good in 30 years, why are you still hopeful with them?
