coaches polls can be a crap shoot…do they really pay attention to each team and what’s going on there? Does the coach even care about the poll and who they choose? Do the coaches even do the poll or pass it off to a staffer?

I understand the idea of a coaches poll and how it could be fun, but it seems like a piece of a long past era of the game

Polls are worthless, preseason breakdown talk is always status quo, the games are all that matters, the rest is just noise. Unless you have local coverage, the rest is worthless.

I would say the coaches polls are probably a better barometer than the media polls. Coaches, or their staffers, probably have a better reading of the teams than the media, who a lot just look at last year's final results and go with that.

I don’t honestly think that any of these polls mean a thing. No one is doing in house analysis on d2 teams and the only way opposing coaches would know what your returning is through the spring scrimmages. For instance, as someone with intimate knowledge of the Augustana football program, I know that both the media and coaches are wrong and we shouldn’t be ranked at all!

I love it, somebody after my own heart that speaks the truth and is a true fan!! I’m not saying that Augustana is not gonna be good this year or better than the team I like, I just really like a true perspective from a true fan.

Explain what you mean by in-house analysis..do you mean like a true critique of each the top 25 teams?

I’m not sure if I’m following.

I once coached at an NSIC school that at the end of the year in our meetings, our DC voted for a QB for Offensive POTY in the NSIC, but voted him 2nd Team QB????

Don't read too much into any of this BS...coaches for the most part, ALL have issues with other programs or players that rejected them.

None of the coaches are putting time into other teams to rank them. If anything, the coaches poll is worse. It’s a straight crapshoot from the previous year. Same with media polls. Preseason is a complete roll of the dice.

I have to disagree with you on in house analysis. The D2.com team spend a great deal of going through each team. Matt Witwicki combs thru each NSIC team carefully, nobody can predict injuries or breakout players, but I feel the men of D2.com are very good. Polls may be somewhat inaccurate, but are interesting.

Absolutely. It’s just not possible for outside sources to properly rank and analyze division 2 programs, especially ones without big media coverage like BSU and WSU. It’s not the BIG10 with regular pressers and media at practice. The ability to cover the teams is limited, hence the ability to properly rank teams is also limited.

They do their best and they make great content, but like I said previously, they’re ability to actually get on campus or speak with coaches and athletes frequently is limited. This is division 2, we don’t have 247 Insiders getting scoops
