This one hurts. Coach Young and now SID. Two men who were synonymous with the Coo. SID possibly more so if one can believe it. A SFC/USF lifer starting as a student manager in 1969, to equipment mangager in '74 following graduation, to sports information director in '79, and then become USF's first full-time AD in 1991. Heck of a golf coach to boot.
More than that, SID was the kindest soul around and super funny, always wanting to know how others were rather than himself. My social media feed was wall to wall of former athletes, coaches, classmates, professors, as well as local media and others all sending their condoloences and sharing SID memories.
Posting the picture below if any opposing teams recognize him from games at Stewie or the Bob, where SID would often be cruising around on his golf cart.
My favorite memory of SID was when my son was about four or five years old, and he was down on the field playing catch with one of the players. My son had set his backpack down while he was running around. SID came through on his golf cart and somehow managed to run over the backpack, even though it was the only object on the entire field.
Man, losing SID on homecoming week, will be some sadness at the Bob on Saturday but what a way to honor SID. All the Cougars coming back. Including the latest inductee to the USF Athletics HoF, the teammate I simply knew as Kicker.... Braden Wieking ('09-12')!
All-American place kicker & second leading scorer in USF Football history with 393 career points
Top of the kicking charts: 52 made field goals & 237 extra points
Holds the record for longest field goal in USF history at 54 yards
Earned numerous awards including All-NSIC, Don Hansen All-Region, Don Hansen All-American, BSN All-American, Fred Mitchell Award, and the Allstate Good Hands Team for community involvement
Kick gets a shoutout on this week's Coo Coach Cast where we have some fun breaking down the win over CSP and find out who texts Coach Glo in the middle of games. Links to video version and audio version.
Gameday is almost here. Really looking forward to the game. UMD is much much better than their record indicates and were now in the stretch that will make (or break) the Coo's season. Looking foward to seeing how they answer the call.

I am so surprised that most people on the Pick ‘em thread is taking Duluth. It is such a big game for Sioux Falls. Homecoming I think all eyes will be on this game for this weekend
Wanted to share this excellent article in SF Live by Trent Singer on old man reciever Carter Slykhuis. I'm not naieve and know the economics of the newspaper industry are way different now than over a decade ago, but sure is nice to see team and player features on the Coo like the old days. I had no idea the severity of Carter's compartment syndrome in HS. Impressive bounce back.

FYI - "The University of Sioux Falls, USF Athletics and the SID Kortemeyer family have announced that the Celebration of Life service will be held at the Stewart Center, Sunday, November 3rd at 2pm... SID would request those at the service to dress in USF or golf attire"
Finally feels like football season lately... hard to believe there's only 3 games left in regular season. Much like the Bemidji game I'm cautiously optimistic for Saturday. Wish it was at home and not Wayne but what do ya do. As a fan, just having meaningful football this late in the season again after last season's aberration has been very refreshing. Team knows what's at stake these last 3 games. They know their margin of error is razor thin. Coach acknowledges as such in this week's Coo Coach Cast where we break down the win over UMD and take a look at Wayne. Links to video version and audio version. Laker and the Mavs Mafia even get a shoutout after making the trip to sunny Coo Falls.

Otis, razor thin is correct. I am thinking 7-4 record, should have taken care of business early in the season. Capable of winning out or going 1-2. Depends on "want to".
I was perusing the history page on the USF website and came across a couple of amusing football excerpts:
1890 - Student newspaper, The Stylus, reports, "The football team will be ready to begin work as soon as they get a ball."
1953 - After the football team lost 28 consecutive games in four years, Coach Phillip Tinsworth vowed that he would stand on his head at the corner of 10th and Phillips Avenue if his team won a game. Finally, on Teepee Day in 1953, the Braves beat the Trojans of General Beadle College (now Dakota State) 13-0, and Coach Tinsworth kept his promise.
Glad I booked my VRBO for the Key to the City game months ago. No VRBO, AirBnB left. A few scattered hotel rooms for that weekend. Excited to see the attendance for that game

I know. Crazy. I had to book 2 nights to get a room. There is a Lainey Wilson concert in town .
It's pretty much what I expected. I knew our playoff hopes were no longer in our hands after the Augie loss. It would have been nice if Bemidji lost yesterday, but that was out of our control.
Before the season started if you had told me that USF would go 8-3 and each of the three losses would be be by just one score, I would have been ecstatic. We improved way faster than I expected from last year's misery campaign.
