        Saturday
Minnetonka/Andover boys HS at 9:30 (outdoors, TV)
BSU Women vs Mankato at 1:00 (outdoors, TV)

I missed it, but here is a story about bringing the Stanley Cup to Bird Island, 12 miles west of me.

Off topic- Not WCHA- but a warning to anyone who wants to radically change their uniforms.

It has been 40 years since Vancouver went to those Flying V uniforms. Some people (not me) call them the ugliest of all time. I've seen worse.

"The Cup" was that close to you and you didn't make it.... UGH!!!!

I have seen the Cup (picture with it), but had to go to Toronto and the Hockey Hall of Fame to do it. One day I will get my kids to it, either while on tour or a trip to the HOF in Toronto.

I think part of the problem people had with them is they didn't have a traditional crest on them. Made it hard for die hards to embrace. But they were definitely unique!

Pure stupidity on my part. I was at BL Days Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sunday I was serving concessions at the antique tractor pull and got pretty worn down. I thought it was coming on Tuesday- by the time I found out it was on MONDAY it was too late. If I was a centipede I'd kick myself a hundred times.

Yeah, saw that yesterday. It will be interesting to see what a change will do for Matt. His first two years in Philly were really stellar, and he cashed in with a multi-million dollar contract. But then injuries hit and he never really regained his offense. He was always very sound defensively for the Flyers and a key piece of their penalty kill. But last year he got squeezed out of Philly and spent a lot of the year in the AHL as a veteran scratch. He did make it back to Philly for the end of the season and their post season games and was again solid defensively, but did not contribute much offensively. Philly needs offensive help, so they decided not to re-sign him.

Based on his last two to three years, this is probably the best he could have hoped for, a one year, two way contract with a minimal cap hit to a team ($650,000 NHL, $200,000 minors). A big pay cut from the $3+ million he made last year.

Glad to have him back in Minnesota though!

A little off topic but might turn out to have an affect on WCHA women's hockey.

Long Island U- Brooklyn is adding "D-1" hockey. They will play in the NEWHA, which is a fairly recent association between several D2 teams plus Sacred Heart women's teams. Now- will they eventually join the CHA? Will Lindenwood then join the WCHA to give it 8 members, replacing North Dakota which dropped their program last year? Or will the NEWHA try to apply for D1 status for an automatic berth (some questions as to if they can do this).

Since D-II does not sanction a National Tournament, these teams, after their probation period, will be eligible for at large berths to the D-I NCAA tournament. Highly unlikely that any of the make it as I can't see their RPI and PWR being high enough by not playing a full D-I schedule, but the possibility is there. Their conference would not be eligible for an automatic berth though.
