This will be the 15th time in the last 16 years Concordia-St. Paul will play for the regional title.
CSP has now won 14 straight NCAA Tournament matches and are 69-6 overall in 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.
In their 14 previous trips to the regional final, CSP has won and advance to the Elite Eight 11 times.
Speaks to the whole experience factor...of all the years I thought for sure this would be the year they found themselves either not advancing or possibly not making the regional. They weren't very that impressive this season...yet...here they are again proving the committee right once again. They have raised the bar for the NSIC but deposited the rise from the rest of us, very impressive for them to keep this going.
Elite Eight field is set. Bracket will be seeded later
American International (24-11)
Lewis (28-7)
Tampa (30-4)
Tarleton State (32-4)
Washburn (32-4)
Western Washington (28-3)
Wheeling Jesuit (37-3)
Wingate (32-1)
They beat 3 NSIC teams in the regional. That is impressive as hell. They are obviously a quality team who can win it all. Hats off to them.
Now, they got the 5 seed? BS. If CSP had made it they would have been the # 1 seed. Washburn got hosed in the seeding.
Western Washington, Washburn and Lewis all got seeded lower than they should have, IMO. I'd have done:
1. WWU
2. Washburn
3. Tampa
4. Wheeling
5. Lewis
6. Tarleton
7. Wingate
...
8. Any playoff team in the Central, Midwest, South, or West
...
30. American International
Re seeding punishes upsets. Either rank all 64 teams and use that to rank the regions 1-8 or rank the #1 seeds 1-8 and then publish a bracket and let it play out.
Elite Eight Results
Tampa def. American International (25-12, 25-18, 25-9)
Washburn def. Wingate (25-21, 25-20, 25-17)
Lewis def. Wheeling Jesuit (25-23, 25-23, 25-19)
Western Washington def. Tarleton State (25-21, 25-22, 25-23)
