Re: Iup basketball
Admittedly haven't listened to Cal's broadcasters. A lot of the schools have students doing the game. And you get what you pay for with that I guess. You have to start somewhere. I realize that. I've often been criticized on here because I'm too harsh on those students. Be better then. I think your post here accurately describes what I often see. I think these kids don't think anybody is listening. There aren't any "news releases" or breaking news stories in D2 athletics. How exactly does one come up with that story?
I think a lot of them just make stuff up. I've caught the IUP guys doing that.
The other thing is that most of them are just communications media majors. I'm sure very few are tuned into what's going on outside of their own school. The way the guys calling IUP's games talked about Mercyhurst, you would think the Lakers were a four win team. There's too much emphasis from any of the student announcers on the rankings. Football is where it's the worst. As we've all discussed, those polls are normally way off the radar. The students calling these games put way too much stock into them.
I would sacrifice quality in play by play and color ability if I had two students who knew the game and were in tune with D2 athletics. That's all I want. My personal opinion, but I think the two students who do the games for SRU are actually pretty good.

Re: Iup basketball
Freshmen team clobbering IUP on boards.
Hawks 4 of 16 on treys. Maybe not shoot so many? Three came in a one minute burst by Dante.
Marko 3 mins. No comment.

Re: Iup basketball
Five games remaining.
Good news: Double-digit favorite in all of them. No more wrestling match types. IUP can run-n-gun in all of them.
Bad news: UPJ is the only remaining opponent with a record above .500 ... in total, the last five have a combined 39-67 record
IUP's metrics are going to take a little hit but they can't control that at this point. They have to go 5-0. No exceptions. West Liberty has (6) games remaining -- three of their opponents have a record above .500
Between now and the end of the conference tournament, I could see both IUP and WL losing another game. On the other hand, both will be the favorite to win their tournament. Like it or not, those metrics could determine who hosts the Regional. I'm pretty confident as of right now IUP will score better in the metrics, but this next stretch of bad teams (after tonight) won't help.
One category which should help IUP is the 'record against regionally ranked teams'.
They both have to avoid one of those famous late February upsets.

Has anybody heard how Darryl Porter is doing?

Re: Iup basketball
Couple observations on today's game:
* When Malik is in that zone he's a top player in the region
* Won the glass by 10 boards
* Shot 50 percent from the field and a sizzling 66 percent in second half
* Armoni is in a little funk and Bearer is rusty (as expected)
* Little too much 'hot dog' at times today. Three-on-one break resulting in a Dante charge can't happen.
* The Joe 'law of averages' defense gave up too many easy treys today.
* Luckily done with the 'Reilly type' teams for awhile. They can run-n-gun the next 5 games to end the season.
* If IUP ever adapts the Gannon offense I will turn in my fan card. Brutal to watch. Sympathy for their fans ...
* Gannon has more assistant coaches on their bench than dressed players. For real ... who needs 43 assistants? All scream in unison for 40 minutes, too. I mean, scream.
* Best wishes to Porter. Total fluke accident. Chuckie isn't remotely that type of player or person.
* Hard to tell from the feed but it appeared the GU ladies had a larger crowd than the men.
* Joe travelled 12 times today on the bench. GU announcer said they didn't call one of them.
* Take any win you get in the Hammermill.
* GU is in a legit battle now for that conference tournament spot.
