Re: PSAC WEST
It's a good story. There are certainly a lot of football players in the PSAC who could play basketball but Staunch actually did it -- and with a good deal of success. He was the perfect piece for that strong Edinboro basketball team last year ... a real spark-plug off the bench and some major muscle for a guard-loaded roster.
Man, he'd be pretty imposing on a pitching mound.
I was waiting to read in the article that his favorite non-football hobby is launching Dante Lombardi across gym floors. LOL.

Re: PSAC WEST
Not a great schedule on tap tomorrow but a few decent games.
IUP at Gannon - What was once a pretty fierce, budding rivalry has kind of fizzled in the past several years. IUP has won 6 of the past 7 in the series - including a 21-point victory earlier this season. Gannon, after losing at home to Seton Hill, now finds itself in the heat of the PSAC Tournament race (at the wrong end, nonethelss). The Griffins and Cal are right on the Knights' tail. Gannon's season is already well lost. Not even making the conference tournament would be devastating. Unfortunately, their path has a major obstacle tomorrow. IUP seemed to finally hit on all cylinders the other night and also is now fully healthy with the return of starting guard Greg Bearer, who had missed the previous month. The Knights will fight but it won't be nearly enough. IUP -17
UPJ at Clarion - The only possible thing to slow down UPJ in this one is the acid-trip amount of painted lines all over the Clarion make-shift court. Mountain Cats roll. UPJ -28
Mansfield at East Stroudsburg - Warriors have three straight freebies. ESU -23
Edinboro at California - This is a game Edinboro can win. If it does, the Scots will find themselves with at least an outside shot of making the conference tournament. Real big game here for the Vulcans. With Gannon being a heavy underdog, Cal really needs this one. The Vulcans blew the Scots out of McComb in the first meeting. Edinboro is playing a little better. Neither team has any bench. Whichever team stays out of foul trouble may win. (Mild) upset special. The big fella, Trey Staunch, can go off in this one against a small Cal post. Edinboro -1
Bloomsburg at Lock Haven -- The Bald Eagles are all but invited to the little dance. A win tomorrow in front of what should be a jam-packed 80-90 people should punch their ticket. Lock Haven -4
Cheyney at Millersville -- What the what? Marauders -17
Kutztown at West Chester -- The last time Kutztown won a big game was way back on Nov. 9 at West Liberty. Since then it has been a steady stream of beating up on the lesser teams and losing to all the good teams they've played. They compete, but still haven't been able to get in the win column. West Chester dropped the hammer on the Golden Bears, 99-76, in Kutztown earlier this season. If you can't beat WCU at home, you aren't beating them in their house. Anthony Lee will need to go for 50 for Kutztown to have a shot. West Chester -13
Slippery Rock at Seton Hill -- Times can change real fast over the course of a basketball season. Three weeks ago most would have laughed if it was suggested Seton Hill could not only win this game, but, could actually be favored to win. Many thought SRU had a mirage-type quality to it. Having started its second loop with a double-digit loss at a reeling Gannon, and also a smackdown loss at IUP, things have abruptly changed inside Morrow Field House. To make matters much, much worse, All-American candidate Micah Till is nursing a leg injury. Seton Hill, on the other hand, is playing its best basketball of the season. Trevor Blondin and Nathan Davis are tearing it up -- and a few others are stepping up, too. The McKenna Center can be a snake pit for visitors. The Griffins shoot the ball extremely well there. SRU has some issues. Seton Hill wins outright. Griffins -4

Re: PSAC WEST
Updated attendance numbers (if anybody cares):
AVG per home game
IUP - 1,306
Gannon - 498
East Stroudsburg - 477
Mercyhurst - 453
Kutztown - 447
SRU - 441
Mansfield - 422
Edinboro - 413
Shippensburg - 409
West Chester - 390
Millersville - 307
Bloomsburg - 234
Cal - 233
UPJ - 206
Lock Haven - 118
Clarion - 118
Seton Hill - 114
Interesting note: IUP women averaging 699 per game. They have a really big following ... and a ton of them leave after the ladies play.
Some of these are just SID's pulling numbers outta you know where. For instance, IUP's game at Seton Hill EASILY had over 1,200 in there. SH reported 250.

Gannon has more 'injuries' every year than the rest of the West combined. Some (Webb for instance) are legit. How many others are actually just being treated by Dr. JR in the 'doghouse' ?

IUP at Gannon. You do know which Gannon team will show up, and its the one that has no scorers and half of its important contributors injured. Salsamendi - has been out for most of the year with injuries. Best player Webb - out for most and the rest of the year. Ogbuagu - out the past 5-6 games and probably the rest of the year still walking around in a boot. Frosh Big Dodds - out the last two games with injury. Valeiras (JUCO Big) - out most of year and still out. IUP -15.
SRU at Seton Hill. Blondin and Davis are literally carrying Seton Hill. SRU's implosion is in full swing. Seton Hill -8.
UPJ v Clarion. Despite youth, which makes UPJ inconsistent, UPJ can make shots which is why UPJ can always surprise. Kromka deserves to be frosh of the year. Clarion is a mess.
CalU v. Boro. Cal's frosh are longer freshman given the minutes they have played. Sancomb has pretty much been forced to play all zone given the lack of size and depth. Still capable of beating lower tier teams. I like Cal -4.
Webb legit
Salsamendi is pride... he'll transfer.
Dodds mersa

West Chester (13-2, 17-5) - Kutztown visits this weekend. Rams are red hot.
East Stroudsburg (11-3, 14-6) - Next 3 are cupcakes prior to showdown at West Chester
Shippensburg (11-4, 17-6) - Bye coming at a good time
Millersville (9-6, 13-9) - Didn't expect a win at WCU. Didn't expect Marauders to be blown out, either.
Kutztown (7-8, 13-10) - Too much talent for double-digit losses on Feb. 7
Lock Haven (6-8, 9-10) - Bald Eagles now just about a lock for PSAC Tournament
Bloomsburg (2-13, 5-15) - Yikes
Mansfield (1-14, 4-18) - Almost over.
WEST
IUP (13-2, 20-2) - Visit to the Hammermill up next. Never know which Gannon team will show up.
Slippery Rock (12-3, 15-7) - Now-daunting trip to Greensburg in 72 hours. Rock's NCAA hopes took a giant nose-dive last night.
Mercyhurst (11-4, 16-4) - More bad news for SRU: Lakers get a bye this Saturday prior to Morrow visit next Wednesday.
UPJ (8-7, 13-9) - Trip to Clarion tends to heal wounds.
Gannon (6-9, 8-14) - Not pleasant times in the 'Mill
California (5-9, 7-13) - Suddenly-hot Edinboro comes to town this weekend. Simpson with the rare Triple-Double last night.
Seton Hill (5-10, 7-14) - Signature win time this Saturday for the rookie head coach. Rock headed to the snake pit.
Edinboro (3-11, 6-13) - Cleary has kept the team playing hard. Not always easy to do.
Clarion (2-13, 4-15) - Walking the Green Mile ...

In case you missed it, last night 'Big Game' Gary Edwards and his Francis Marion team went on the road and upset No. 4 USC-Aiken, 92-89.

Re: PSAC WEST
Cleary is coaching his a$$ off at Edinboro. With the resources he unfortunately has to work with, there is such a small margin for error or even bad luck, as would have it this year with losing Coleman. Imagine what last year's team could have been if he hadn't lost a few promising players over the years. He's also had some bad luck with transfers not turning out. According to the numbers I've seen, he's got the lowest scholarship total in the West.
Also, FWIW, I've seen it on here several times that Slippery Rock doesn't value men's basketball. Their scholarship total is just a half equivalency less than IUP.
