I felt awful for the Washington Huskies having to play at Penn State last night. Those poor student athletes from both sides had to stay up late just to appease network TV. I hope their academics don't suffer.

Soooo much whining from Penn State followers about the noon kickoff with Ohio State and then having their precious whiteout game moved to Peacock. All these football factories want the millions of dollars they can get from the gigantic TV deals so they can lord it over the common football folk, but they don't want to live with the consequences, which are that the people spending all that money want to call the shots. The Big 10 wouldn't have been able to add Oregon and Washington without extra bucks thrown in by Fox Sports. Can you imagine the revolution if would make in any of our PSAC athletic departments if we got the gate receipts from even one Penn State game?

My brother, a long-time PSU season ticket holder, has about had it with the constant requests for more money on top of the thousands he has already paid them. When you're paying that much to be involved in a football program, the "but the other school has more" argument will only go so far.

No one is arguing your eye level statement. What were saying is if Duke decided to no longer let any fans in the arena and not televise games.. and their teams have to play in front of just game day staff... Duke would lose a lot of good recruits.

That may be, but I'll venture a guess that if you ask the players weather they want to play in an 80% empty arena or a full gym with loud fans...they will pick the latter 10 times out of 10.

I agree. Although they played in front of absolutely nobody during COVID, I know many college athletes said the arenas being empty lessened momentum runs and that they get fueled by the crowd energy.

I think the crowd plays an important part in how a team plays. A loud, raucus home crowd in a packed gym can elevate a team to new heights while demoralizing their opponents. That said, I believe that crowd inspired performance gain is relatively minor...but in a close game, that minor performance improvement can be enough to get a team over the top!

So, in short, the 6th man effect is real, but not as real as fans want it to be.

But honestly, last year the British soccer player kid who ran color commentary for WV Wesleyan was absolutely worth the listen! Downright hilarious (in a laughing WITH you not AT you kind of way. Super entertaining kid).

But yes, most use local radio guys or experienced sports media guys in the MEC.

For instance, our teams playing in the MEC tonight ... you can download the Mountain East app. You'll quickly see their basketball broadcasts are far superior to ours. They don't use student announcers and their overall production is much, much better.

As SRU is home this weekend, its games should be available both on their network as well as the PSAC network.

The PSAC and MEC networks are free. When our teams play at CIAA schools, in the past you've had to pay to watch.

Yeah i have a bunch of the other apps.. was just wondering if I'd need the SRU app to watch their home games or if I can still watch on PSAC

So i see that rocks home games can be viewed on Rock Athletics Digital Network (which can be installed on smart tvs etc). Does anyone know.. Will their home games then not be on PSAC app at all?

Poll the players. You're in the 'media'. See how many like playing in front of 20 percent capacity (if even) gyms at 5pm. I think you know what the answers will be.

Do the coaches read them bedtime stories at 9pm, too?

Come on. This is hilarious. These players aren't in elementary school.

None of that matters...I'd wager that less than 10% care about the audience watching them. They care about playing. Why else would students play for teams that generally aren't compettitve? I'll do this...I'll ask some ESU players, you ask some IUP players. We can complare notes...Deal??
