Re: PSAC WEST
A couple nice games tomorrow. A couple not so much. The West should be a very vanilla day. The East has two big games. Both will go a long way in determining the East race.
Shippensburg at West Chester
- The East's top spot is on the line. West Chester enters having won 8 straight. Shippensburg got back on track with a beatdown of Mansfield. It's tough to win in West Chester and the Rams are the deeper team. WCU plays a physical brand of defense and can take the three-point shot away. Shippensburg's lack of size won't do it any favors in this game. The Red Raiders can't rely solely on the deep shot and will need to find an inside game against a big WCU post. WCU's weakness inside is they foul -- a TON. The Rams are likely flying pretty high after escaping East Stroudsburg with a huge win. WCU has too much in this one -- especially at home. WCU -5
East Stroudsburg at Kutztown
- This has become a 'must-win' for the Warriors. At their current 6 losses, time is not their friend. With the schedule that awaits them even beyond this game, the room for error is getting pretty small. Kutztown is technically still alive but has to win this game. ESU has been playing pretty well lately despite losses to Ship, IUP and WCU. They could have won all three of those games. Kutztown is too unpredictable. Good one night. Very average the next. ESU gets out of town with the win. Warriors - 7
IUP at Clarion
- There was a time that this was a big yearly game. That time has long since passed. Clarion has shown a couple glimpses of life this season. The Golden Eagles played Shippensburg tough and lost to UPJ by just a point. But, the majority of the season they've looked awful. They do have a couple good players. But, that's the root of the problem. They'd need more than a couple to beat IUP. Expect the Hawks to come out flying and spend the second half working on some new items. IUP - 18
Mercyhurst at California
- Cal plays hard for 40 minutes. No denying it. Playing Mercyhurst with 5 guys is about impossible. The Lakers' high-pressure defense will wear the Vulcans out. Lakers leave the Angelo Dome with a win. Mercyhurst -14
Seton Hill at Pitt-Johnstown
- Seton Hill has climbed out of the West basement and is in contention for a conference tournament spot. The Griffins head to Johnstown winners of their past two (at Bloom and at Cal). The streak ends there, however. With no inside game, Seton Hill is custom-made as the type of team UPJ thrives against -- especially at home. Mountain Cats put up a big number. UPJ -20
Slippery Rock at Edinboro
Unless about 5-6 SRU players miss the bus, this won't be remotely close. Rock wins big. SRU -28
Gannon at Millersville
- Millersville is a tough out. The Marauders can score and defend -- and they're real tough at home. Gannon's pressure defense will cause them some issues, but the Golden Knights won't score enough to win. Millersville wins a fairly tight one. Marauders -5
Cheyney at Lock Haven
- Cheyney's Memory Lane tour continues. Similar result. Lock Haven -8
Bloomsburg at Mansfield
- Huskies get a much-needed win. Bloomsburg -18

West Chester at East Stroudsburg
- Game of the night. Both enter with identical 8-2 conference records. They enter on different paths, however. West Chester has won 7 straight. ESU is 2-3 in its past 5 outings. Granted, in that stretch the Warriors lost in OT to IUP and by 6 points at Shippensburg. West Chester has some decent wins (Kutztown, Millersville) but is lacking a true signature win this season. These programs know each other very well. The coaches know each other well. Both are deep. Hard one to predict. Home team gets the edge. The Warriors have to play clean(er) and not have three players fouling out. East Stroudsburg wins in the final three minutes. Gannon shot 12/50 from the field, making 1 of their first 21 shots. It was something like 19-5 with less than 4 minutes to go in the first half. GU went on a mini-hot streak and was down only 24-15 at the break despite being below the Mendoza Line from the field. It was a 6-point game (38-32) with 8 minutes to go, but GU couldn't do anything else and Hurst pulled away.
Gannon has little to no offensive post game. Mercyhurst shut down the bigs and the guards couldn't make it up. It's really weird in Mercyhurst Athletic Center - it's hard to explain if you haven't been there.
Edit: In case anyone was wondering, the 35 points is the fewest points GU has scored since 1972/73 -- 46 years!
The MAC is literally what BigIndians said... disgusting how awful that shack is.
What a game ESU/WCU was. We'll see that battle again soon at WCU.
