To step up a bit in conference play the Raiders will probably need some pickup from one or more of Jackson Boone, Ben Rill, and Gabe Romero-Sanz, their freshman and sophomore forwards from last year. Incoming transfer Nicolas Acosta from Union County CC in New Jersey also will be looked to for help. The Raiders should be pretty solid at guard with Dickson and Smith backed by sophomores Sebastian Edwards and Emonte Hill.

While it's never wise to count too much on freshmen, newcomers Collin Bowles and Justin Jennings might be talented enough to offer some help this season. Both had stellar high school careers against strong opposition. Bowles chalked up 300 three-pointers during his stint at Massaponax High in Spotsylvania, Va., and Jennings was a standout all-around forward at Fairfax Christian School in Virginia.

Their season opens Nov. 9 with a home game against Wilson College, followed by a trip to tournament action in Frostburg. The Raiders will be tested early as only two of their first nine games are at home. In addition to the Nov. 14-15 action at Frostburg, their road trips include a Dec. 4 visit to IUP.
Whoa, very disappointed to see the other Smith, Parker, is going to limit himself to track. He was an unconscious scorer at Carlisle.

Of the three big guys you mentioned, I'm thinking Ben Rill is the one most likely to break out. Boone and Romero-Sanz ... they are what they are.

I would have been interested in seeing Parker play as well, but he appears to have decided basketball is not the future. His height would not have helped him on defense. We've had a lot of experience at Ship recently of 6-4 guards from our opponents backing our 6-foot guards toward the basket and shooting over them. Dickson usually handles it, but not everybody jumps out of the gym like he can. I think the two new guys from Virginia could be players, but they are freshmen. Bowles was an awesome shooter in HS. They need some of that.

Boone is what he is, but he gave them some good minutes at times last year. Rill has potential and shooting touch, but he needs to be tougher inside than he was as a freshman, and he's not a great leaper. The wild card is the CC transfer, and I haven't seen him play. It would help if he's a guy who is able to put up some points.
