The venue looks smaller than the KCAC on video...is that correct?

Duquesne's arena seats about 3,500. So, yes, it's smaller than the KCAC (and drastically smaller than Angelo's Dome).

And, yes, it will be an insane homecourt advantage tomorrow night. I'd guess IUP will have 95% of the crowd (if not more). That helps, but it only helps so much. They need to play way better (and cleaner) tomorrow.

The night game will help. The people on the fringe (of attending) aren't likely to take vacation time.

    • Good to see Weaver make a list....

WBCA announces NCAA Division II honorees for 2025-26 season - WBCA

The Holy Family player is listed as first team. Question is was she really better than Weaver (or Claxon for that matter)?

What do the stats say? These are 'stat' awards.

        • Congrats to the IUP women for making the Final Four. It's nice to see the PSAC making some noise in basketball, whether it's on the men's or women's side.

          • I know I watched IUP play in the semis I think when they were at Columbus, Ohio in I am going to say 2019. They lost I know, but I am pretty sure that is the last time IUP advanced this far.

You sound like that was in the 1960s.

It's hard to make the Final Four.

Only one team wins the last game of the season.

Getting here twice in 7 years is pretty impressive.

But, yes, we unfortunately remember that game. IUP was up 9 or 10 after three quarters and lost. In fact I think they were still up 9 or 10 with 7 minutes to play.

Ugh that makes me think back to when Gannon women were in E8 many years ago.. up by almost 20 with 6 mins left. Cleve left 2 girls in with 4 fouls.. they both fouled out and Gannon found themselves on the wrong side after that 6 mins ended. Think they went like 4-13 from the FT line from that point on.

This was still back when they were playing halves.

No, Hinkle is not better than Weaver or Claxon. Seeing her in person, I was not impressed, especially with the ball in her hands and the game on the line. You could tell that she hadn’t seen the type of players and specifically the defense Ellie Wilkerson showed her. I wasn’t joking earlier when I said she’d be 2nd team PSAC at best. However, as IUPbigIndians pointed out, these are stats awards and she definitely racked up big numbers so it is what it is.

A critical moment in that game is when IUP’s spark plug and best player, Carolyn Appleby, got injured and had to sit several minutes in the 4th quarter. She somehow willed herself back onto the court late and darned near led IUP to the win despite hobbling around.

I was at that game. Somebody else got hurt as well, and there was another girl in foul trouble. They essentially had three starters sitting out the entire fourth quarter. And there was a tall girl from that team they were playing that just absolutely took over, inside and out. She hit a couple big threes down the stretch and nobody could stop her in the paint.

They ran out of gas and the team they were playing just had somebody shoot unconscious in the 4th.

The biggest difference between that team and this team is the current edition is vastly deeper. Tom's teams were built (and run) like Joe's teams. They aren't (and weren't) designed to deal with any rotation adversity. Tom's teams also tended to rely on just a couple players (like most of Joe's teams).

This team is also way, way more physical and bigger. Tom tended to have more slow-down, finesse lineups.

No. I was just trying to remember when it was for sure. I know IUP was in the Final Four a year or two before that time too.

Gannon on the other hand, have they ever made the Final Four? I can think of at least three times they made it to the Elite Eight and lost in the first round, but maybe they did advance beyond the first round one year?
