  • Atlantic Region Women's Basketball '25-'26

Below is the first release of the Atlantic Region Women's Basketball Rankings.

The first release is not seeded. The 10 teams are just listed alphabetically. Keep in mind, this list came out prior to last night's games -- and a couple of these teams lost last night. I included their records as of today.

    Charleston (16-9)

    Concord (17-8)

    Edinboro (15-11)

    Fairmont State (18-7)

    Fayetteville State (18-4)

    Gannon (23-3)

    Glenville State (20-4)

    IUP (22-1)

    Seton Hill (16-7)

    Winston-Salem (23-2)

IUP is going to be the 1, but it will be interesting to see if they initially give the 2 spot to Gannon or Winston Salem State. The Rams are legit, although the PSAC is historically superior to the CIAA. My top four would be:

    1. IUP
    2. Gannon
    3. Winston Salem State
    4. Glenville State

No Lock Haven? Seems odd for a 19-5 team that’s playing well right now.

      I saw that.

      Boro must have crazy metrics.

I think they’re giving props to the PSAC West for its overall strength. If you look at the West vs the East, the West pretty much dominated. Lock Haven went 2-2 with losses to Edinboro and Seton Hill. IUP, Gannon, Seton Hill, and Edinboro were undefeated against the East.

IF IUP gets to host I think it would draw pretty well.

The dirty little secret nobody is talking about is Carey is out- drawing Joe at the box office.

I don't care what the propaganda reported numbers say.

But, I also think IUP will play Gannon two more times before the Regional even starts ... So, who knows.

They have to get this slow start thing figured out. Sooner or later it will happen against a team that won't blow a massive lead.

To answer your question about Lock Haven, look at InkBlot Sports website and focus on the RPI. It is not the determining factor, but gives yiu a pretty good idea.

Lock Haven sHavs at 9th right now. I could see them in the top 10 next week.

I'll quote my Patreon post: "Spots 9–13 are tight enough in the metrics that it seems reasonable for Edinboro and Charleston's head-to-heads to be the deciding factor (along with Lock Haven's lack of RPI top-10 wins)."

Edinboro beat Charleston and Lock Haven; Charleston beat Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan, who as of Monday were similar in RPI. Lock Haven is 0-5 against the 5 best teams they've played, including Edinboro.

It seems then that Lock Haven will need to make a PSAC tournament run to get in, which will mean needing a win (or two) over a top 4 PSAC West team. As you pointed out, they might have a nice record on paper but they are 0-5 against top competition.

Yep. That would be my guess. They need to get to the semis at a minimum. The finals would be great, but I think that would be a stretch for them.

Who knows though. Weird things seem to have in the PSAC tournament!

I think Lock Haven is good and they’re playing especially well right now. They weren’t playing well when they got hammered by the West teams earlier in the year, but you can’t lose every game during that stretch. If Lock Haven doesn’t get in, I think a couple that do probably aren’t as good. The next few weeks are going to be fun!

University of Charleston if off the bubble.

They win the Mountain East Conference Tournament over the Glenville State Lady Pioneers by a score of 48-43.

The Lady Golden Eagles are heading back to the NCAA tournament.

Knowing the system Glenville runs, just take a second look at that score! Charleston executed to perfection in that game. Got a lead (due, in part, to some ice cold Glenville shooting) and then took the air out of the ball possession after possession. Hats off to Coach Johnson and the Lady Eagles for a masterful performance today.

The Women's first round has a whole lot of PSAC West flavor. It should be an entertaining Friday.

                          (8) Charleston at (1) IUP

                          (4) Seton Hill vs (5) Fayetteville State

                          (2) Gannon vs (7) Edinboro

                          (3) Winston-Salem vs (6) Glenville State

Four PSAC west teams and Fairmont State saying...what about us!?!?! A head to head win over Seton Hill in the regular season just wasn't enough given their resume otherwise.

Fairmont women were hit hard by injuries late in the season. They just weren't the same down the stretch as they were early on. No complaints about them missing out.
