  • Victor Desmond of Gannon announced he is entering the portal. In the post, he referenced the "JUCO Rule" to petition for another year of eligibility.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that waiver only apply if moving up to D1, or he is free to explore options at D2 as well?

What? How does this guy not surprise you? He's nothing more than a D2 guy. Played well in the system but shot 27% from three and a lot of his scoring was cheap clean ups from the press. I don't see next level for this guy.

Not sure how that works. All I know is that this portal stuff is a Wild Wild West. Anything goes, no rules!

          Pros:
I think there’s now a large enough sample size between threes (35.7% career on 428 attempts) and FT (86.5% on 244 attempts) to suggest that Prosser is an adequate to good shooter.
He’s now got a two year sample of a roughly 2:1 AST:TO, suggesting his passing isn’t a fluke
Based on some data I saw on Xitter, he’s actually fairly solid at finishing at the rim (121/186 or 65.1% through the Final Four) and getting there himself (69.4% of rim FG unassisted.)
He’s used to up tempo ball so he will most likely be solid in transition and won’t be gassed, even with the change in competition.

          Neutral:
He’s probably not going to grab 5 boards a game at the next level, even if he’s tough and good at positioning. The numbers are likely a little boosted by Gannon’s pace. He may be better than your average 6’2” guard but not like he was at this level.
Prosser is probably not going to average 2+ steals a game at the next level either, for similar reasons.
The PSAC as a whole was a weak league this year. I think Prosser performed well enough against the best teams on the schedule to alleviate the concerns some, but there’s definitely a bit of stat padding in there in the bottom of the west and the dregs of the east crossover games.
Prosser shot a lot of threes but “only” about 1/3 were unassisted this year. It’s not clear if he can consistently generate his own looks behind the arc against better defenses, which is more valuable for a lead guard than just excelling in catch & shoot.

          Negatives:
Prosser is only 6’2”, so unless he has crazy wingspan he’s likely only going to be fit to guard other 1s. That will probably limit his ceiling on one end of the floor.

I do think that parts of his offensive game will translate, but I think his ceiling as a D1 move up might be limited some by his stature. I’ll be curious to see what happens with him over the next few years, and would wish him well if he does move up.

I mean Duke isn't calling. But I think he'll be fine at the Siena-type level.

Yep...and if said waiver is denied, just file suit!

Also was a major liability from the free throw line as a guard. Very up and down but played well in the title game. But as you said, wild west, nothing really surprises me anymore.

Hell easily make it to a low level D1. 6'6 guard who can pass, shoot and drive. I was surprised he didnt leave after last year.

He was like 85% from FT line before he injured his hand. After that it was a roller coaster.

                    • To be honest, my guess is these 3 have an idea of where theyre going already. Might still field some calls, but have a tentative decision already made.

Shelton and Goodrick entered portal quickly last season and it was already known Shelton was going to Merrimack to play with his HS teammate. It was alleged Goodrick was down to 3 schools and Siena was one of them.

Forgot about the hand injury. Makes sense.

                        • A friend of mine recently said this to me about the portal and I think he nailed it. He’s a former D1 QB, but now in his early 70’s but with two grandsons playing D2 and D1 football. I think the portal can be a good thing in a lot of situations, but I’m guessing most that enter it are doing so based on the below.

The one thing I think too many people forget is that the portal opens an avenue for lots of immature young adults to make knee-jerk decisions about their athletic and academic (most don’t have an academic side) careers. The portal feeds the impatient impulses of young adults who don’t want to “buck up”, work hard, endure, adapt to coaches, and assimilate into a team. All the aspects of team sports like football that prepare you for life are jeopardized by the portal.

There are some instances where it serves a genuine purpose. Some of these coaches are not good human beings. Regardless of all the mumbo jumbo coach speak, some do not have the players' best interest at heart.

But, yes, there are far too many primadonna types today.
