Re: The Focus Shifts to Municipal Auditorium
Three times in four years.
2014 - lost 70-67 to Concordia-St. Paul at Harding in front of 324 people
2016 - lost 78-74 at Pitt State in front of 2891 people
2017 - lost 58-56 at Harding in front of 2850 people
We tried to host both tournaments in 2000 but in the HS semifinals we had an overtime game and a kid broke his leg so the final game that was scheduled to start at 9 pm ended up starting at 10:30 I think. Of course we still had 3823 show up for the Lady Hornets 78-66 win over Mo. Western. But that wasn't a "Championship Environment" and we were put on probation that said we could not host the next time we were the #1 seed. The next year we are the #1 seed and had to go to Kingsville. ESU ended up losing to TAMU-Kingsville 71-69 in front of 2700 and had to play the last five minutes without a scoreboard. But that was a "Championship Environment".
Interesting side fact the Lady Hornets have eliminated the regional host team six times since 2005, twice defeating the #1 ranked team in the nation in the process.
Sorry for the rant. Just suffering a little withdrawal from lack of March basketball.
