  • For healthy, young-middle aged people it sucks. The risk of this spreading to infants, elderly, and immuno-compromised is what this is about nation wide since that is where the real risk lies.

Definitely sucks for the teams and players to not get the experience of playing in front of that type of crowd. It's been really fun the last few years in Maryville to see the atmosphere. I'm sure the players enjoyed it too.

New Ulm, full of Germans, has a St Patty's Day parade that goes the opposite way on a one way street.

They will still have it. Bearcat Arena is not a neutral site. But of course the fans are the real reason for the “home court advantage”, the biggest part of it. So
            I understand what you mean.

While this levels the playing field a bit for the other 56 teams, we should feel just as bad for them too. They’ve worked hard as well, but maybe didn’t have quite as much talent or luck as the #1 seeds. And they too want to perform in front of their fans, as well as everyone else who would’ve been in attendance.

The high majors might look at a D2 guy and that could cause the D2 player to really consider it but I don't think it will be very common. This will impact the low and mid majors getting picked over more than anywhere else. Maybe those low and mid majors start changing their recruiting approach and offer more to those players who traditionally went D2 so they never end up in D2 but I don't see a raid on most D2 schools unless it's a really good player at an average or below average D2 school and was completely overlooked looking to move up.
I agree in general...but all I know is I’d take Hudgins and Hawkins over pretty much anybody on the University of MN roster this season other than maybe a couple guys.

Where I disagree with this is the fact that if any of those kids who were initially recruited by low to mid-major D1s initially turned those offers down because they knew they would be redshirting or riding the bench for a few years before they would get any playing time, now they would have somewhat of a guarantee (if the coach is an honest/decent person) that they would get playing time right away. It's possible they wouldn't have chosen D2 in the first place if they'd known they'd get enough minutes at some of those D1s, which they could now get after an un-penalized transfer.

It really sucks for the coaches/programs that manage to develop their players to a point that they are significantly more appealing prospects as transfers than they were coming out of high school. As others have implied in this thread, those coaches would basically be fattening up the pig for another coach. I think it will happen from the D2 to D1 level more than some might think. So many kids are disappointed by not getting that magically validating D1 offer they so desperately wanted in high school. Being able to redeem themselves of that after a year or two at a D2 might be more appealing than a kid going from a decent D1 to a higher level D1. Especially if they are only on a partial scholarship at the D2 level—which is always possible—and would instead be getting a full ride at whichever D1 they leave for.

                • D-1 Nebraska BB has gotten so bad that they took two FB players with them to Indiana yesterday. The team was briefly quarantined, but it turned out Hoiberg only has the flu.

This hoops season for them has made me so happy.

Nebraska basketball joined Nebraska football in freeing up a lot of time for me. I receive the alert on my phone that the team has lost and move on with my day. I'm now dead inside, but we can't have everything..

Winona took a guy off the football team a few years back when they were short. He had to play quite a bit and did ok. They even made the region but got hammered round one. Of course we are not talking Power Five.

As I put in the General Discussion but will put it here too:

No it's not. Please look at the growth rate of those who contracted the virus in other countries, namely Italy. That is what is trying to be prevented. This kind of thinking is what has already made it worse than it needed to be in the U.S. and will make it worse without action.
