  • Former Lady Panther coach Molly Miller's Grand Canyon team has some big wins this season, including (neutral) Arizona State and (at) Arizona.

Missouri State Women just defeated Little Rock. Announced attedance was 1853.

Ticket prices for the double header the Lady Panthers are in at the University of Illinois are $8 for the pair. The last home game for the Lady Illini was against Bradley in front of 3684

    • On his post game radio shows, Missouri State Men's coach Cuonzo Martin has been vocal over the lack of fan support this season. I agree with friends who work at the arena that prices are too high. If you come by yourself, it's not too bad at about $25 for food and admission. Imagine bringing your wife and a couple teens. The average casual fan will not come to every home game like in the old days to see an average-at best team.

$12 before concessions for a double header is a great deal for a single guy. Add the wife and a couple high school students, times 2 for Thursday/Saturday GLVC games, equals less people at the games.

The NIL, transfer portal and other bull crap the NCAA pushes is just making it worse.

      • The Lady Panthers looked good in their win yesterday making 20 assists on 31 made shots. The Grand Valley game showed them how quick they need to be on both sides of the ball. Drury finished 3 and 1 against MIAA competition after this win against Northeastern State. The only loss was against Newman which should have never happened.

Concerning losses that should have never happened, SBU Women lost to 5-8 NAIA Oklahoma Wesleyan in front of 400 Bolivar school kids. SBU led by 6 after 3 quarters eventually losing by 7. One can watch the replay of first three quarters on GLVCSN. The 4th quarter meltdown replay apparently doesn't exist. Former Lady Panther Hailey Meely had 22 points to lead Wesleyan. Hailey and Sydney Benning were dismissed from the Lady Panthers for violating team rules during their freshman seasons.

Rockhurst Women have lost to 2 NAIA teams and needed overtime to get by 1-10 NAIA Baker. Nevertheless, Rockhurst will likely upset some GLVC foes as Keegan Sullivan is using her covid season and is playing her 5th season as a Hawk. She followed her sister to Rockhurst despite being recruited by numerous Division I schools, including South Carolina, North Carolina State, Kentucky and UCLA.

        • Thats pretty good against the MIAA.

I was surprised at the Grand Valley Quincy score. I would have not had Quincy playing Grand Valley better than any opponent to date. Maybe they will make some noise in the GLVC.

Losing to NAIA schools is not a good look, but it's probably better than losing to a D3 school who can offer no athletics scholarships.

The winter dead period is here, from here on out it's pretty much all conference until the end of the season. Seems like these first two months have flown by.

          • Real quick while waiting here..

I obviously hoped for better, but the big loss to GV wasn't a surprise for me. Drury's system is far from established and a match up with the number one team in America was absolutely not a recipe for success at this point. Case in point, Truman beat Newman by 32 points. The next day, the Lady Panthers looked absolutely clueless as they lost to Newman by 6. Drury later beat Truman by 25. Drury also beat Quincy by 9.

Hence, Drury has a lot of room for improvement and will be a lot better at the end of the season as is typical of Bailey coached teams. One example of this is when Drury beat Coach Bailey early in her last season as Quincy's coach by 22 in a game that wasn't as close as the final score. In the conference tournament, Drury dodged a bullet as Quincy missed a game winning shot at the buzzer.

I had a feeling Quincy would give Grand Valley a good game as the Hawks defense is very well established. Cymirah Williams had 16 rebounds against GV and is one of the holdovers from Kaci Bailey's last Quincy team. Bailey left Quincy in a heckuva lot better shape than Eagan left Drury. Bailey is a good coach. Also, 31 turnovers certainly didn't help Quincy against GV.

The SBU 4th quarter meltdown is not an isolated occurance. One of those games was last season when visiting Quincy out scored SBU 22 to 4 in the 4th quarter completing a huge come back win. There are other examples. 6'6" Tori Hamilton consistently fouling on the perimeter doesn't help their cause.

Yes, time flies. Count your blessings. I have seen a lot of good people in need lately. This has inspired some of my ticket pricing rants. Merry CHRISTmas!

            • I watched eight high school games in the last 3 days at the 32 team Blue and Gold Tournament that featured a lot of very good college ready players

Republic's 6'0" Brenley Hagewood is the top player in Southwest Missouri IMO. This kid is a four year starter and 1,000 point scorer already for the Tigers who play in the Central Ozark Conference, one of the toughest in Missouri.

A team player who can get his own shot if needed, he can make the move to get open for the three, midrange, or the inside finish. Or, he can elevate to get these shots. A superb althete, his vertical leap has to be at least 40 inches because he gets well above the rim on his thunderous two hand dunks at just 6'0" tall. My group agreed there is nothing visually about him that gives a clue he is all that.

Hopefully the Drury program can make itself more appealing to these players by putting together a winning streak to finish the season.

              • The Missouri State Men dropped a Heartbreaker last night to Valparaiso in front of 2000 fans. MSU is offering $5 seats (except lower level) for tonight's Lady Bear game in an attempt to generate fan interest.
Side note, D2 transfer Lacey Stokes leads Mo State in scoring (12.6 ppg), assists (53), steals (30) and minutes (34.7 mpg).

It’s not the responsibility of the outgoing coach to set up the new coach for success. The only difference is the players did not want to follow Molly to GCU and players wanted to follow Coach Eagan. Molly tried to take several players with her and she had every right to do so since she recruited most of them. EVERYONE knew who Nyla was bringing in and since it wasn’t Addy Roller, they wanted to follow who recruited them, Coach Eagan. Just like Katie Scott following Molly. it was perfectly OK for Molly to take Scott with her. She recruited her and had a relationship with her. It’s also not Eagan’s fault that Clevenger and Shaff left.

You can pin this on whoever you want to make your feel better about Drury’s demise, but this is on Nyla and her need to be relevant and in control. Coach Bailey is just a casualty of a terrible higher. My daughter plays high school basketball in the area and I can assure you , Drury has lost its luster and appeal to younger players. The current players there are telling high school kids to not come to Drury. It’s sad for the program but let’s be realistic of where it’s at and why.

                  • Everyone understands this program will never be at the level it was. There are a lot of people who will disagree with some of your points. Especially when apparently there was dishonesty going on. I am about done for another reason.

                    • It is interesting to follow this thread. The Blue and Gold was always an opportunity to see some of the talented players who had committed to Drury. I agree wholeheartedly that there were several players in this year’s tournament that could contribute at the D1 or D2 level. It was great to see the Bolivar team play such great defense, memories of Garrison.

For the LadyPanthers it is difficult to watch. At times it is clear the game prep is just not meeting the basics. 20+ turnovers a game will lead to many defeats, and with the lack of a floor “General” leading to confusing possessions. I agree a real search for a high caliber coach could have been done after Amy left but it appeared to be a predetermined hire. I would love to see Peyton Richard’s or Deajah Bernard come back to the program in some capacity to drive some local interest.
The era of NIL has to make recruiting difficult thus adding to the struggle for the coach. Drury was a top National contender that now is simply over matched at the coaching level. We have some very talented players though the utilization of them has been suspect!

Bailey met with Payton Richards when she was hired regarding an assistant position. For whatever reason, it didn’t come to fruition. From what is going around, alumni are no longer interested in this program either. It’s not just about the wins and losses, the culture and standards set by previous coaches, is not there. Many suspect Nyla is calling the shots behind the scenes which is isn’t fair to Bailey if that’s the case.

With the portal and instant availability of players, you cannot blame anything on previous coaches. Especially in the second year of a new tenure. It’s just the way it is. Hopefully there is a turnaround in both programs. Plenty of talented boys in the area that can make an impact in the Men’s program.

One thing I will say, these universities need to keep in mind there are a lot of traditional families with traditional beliefs. When said universities shove new and controversial ideals down our throats, they are naive to think that doesn't contribute to people staying away in droves. Not everyone drinks that koolaid.

The Lady Bears had 5 dollar ticket night for their games last night. It didnt help. There were 2,000 people in attendance. This program used to draw 5 to 6 thousand even in down years.
