Everyone has met Blanchard's mother. Super nice lady. Did she give you a hug? Blanchard is a great player, but not even the best in the region let alone the GLIAC. That will go to Grand Valley's Bisballe.

And does Grand Valley care about women's basketball? Not really. We are talking about a university with over 20,000 students. So in comparison to MAC schools it is bigger than: Northern Illinois, Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Akron, Bowling Green, Miami of Ohio, and Toledo. Only Ohio University, Buffalo, and Kent State are bigger. There is a reason that school wins the Learfield Cup almost every year. It is a D1 sized school that has no business in D2. If you ever have the opportunity to see their campus, you would think you are at a MAC school. Private schools certainly don't have the money or resources to compete with it year in and year out. Only a handful of public D2 universities can either (West Texas, Minnesota State for example but not a lot of other ones).

    • Looks like the Lady Panthers will get a lot younger next season. They have signed 5 high level high school seniors to replace 5 of the 6 current players who will graduate. This signing class is loaded with all state, state champion and successful elite travel team players. Long term, this looks like the right move. Short term, this team has a LOT of work to do before March.

Wow, a healthy Rhi Gibbons sure would have helped last season. She has worked hard to return to form.

      • I think Cedarville is trying the same rebuild tactic, but this year. Of course Cedarville is coached by a former Drury assistant. So far she has really struggled at Cedarville. But they don't have the money or the resources like Drury, and they have some pretty strict rules so you just can't recruit student athlete you would like.

Still puzzled why Kentucky Wesleyan never played Drury last week. Hearing Kentucky Wesleyan is in a dire financial situation, so I wonder if a long trip to Springfield just wasn't something they could afford.

        • Drury women with a nice win over Southern Missouri. Went in overtime but Panthers should have wrapped it up in regulation. Blew a large lead late. Need to close that out.

          • Hey all. Been a Drury fan since ‘97 and began becoming a heavy follower of the league. Wondering what you have heard about the men this season? Haven’t heard you all say much. I’m wondering why Riok has been so poor to begin

            • I have wondered the same thing. He didn't even play in their last game. Also, the heralded transfer from Pepperdine has yet to see action this season due to injury. If not for missed free throws, this team would be undefeated.

              • One thing I’ve learned from d2 hoops is when you’re a big transferring from D1 to glvc- you better be able to shoot or move really well or you will be exposed. Not sure if he has that in his game from HS stats or film. Hope he gets a shot and can protect the rim though!

And if my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle!

Maybe she identifies as your uncle.

Sophomore Juok Riak showed his All American potential last night against previously undefeated Union (4-0) that feature seven athletic players who are 6'7" and above.

He scored 20 points on 9 of 10 shooting and made his only three point attempt. If help defense isn't effective he is likely getting to the rim. On his third dunk in a short period of time, he drove past the defender from the corner and made multiple moves to shed help defenders and finished with a thunderous two hand dunk. His first dunk was a hard one handed posterization of the 6'8" defender who was between Juok and the basket.

I think his "poor start" has more to do with him playing team ball as there are multiple good players on this team.

The general concensus is that Sekou Gassama will be the best rebounder on this team when he returns. This is a good team.

                      • I listened to the game and peeked at the stats afterward. Hopefully more games allow the team to cleanup on some turnovers. Riok will never be in an all-American conversation- not even player of the year conversation if he is averaging 2 rebounds a game like he did last year/early parts of this year. Highly talented, the motor does not seem to be there.

Hopefully there’s a way to tap into his potential and get him to be more effective on the boards.

This team is Uber talented and fun to watch. If they are able to be shot makers this year they will be a team to beat in the GLVC.

Those are valid points, but consider he is not a one dimensional player. Juok is often guarding on the perimeter as he believes he can guard anyone on the court. I don't question his motor as he covers a lot of space on both sides of the ball. He is young, he will get better. Rebounding would be an issue if the Panthers were getting out rebounded as a team.

Concerning turnovers, that will get cleaned up as the new players including the freshman point guard get more acclimated. This team has a ton of upside but will get tested today.

                          • We all knew this would be a work in progress, but the coaching didn't look good at all today for the Lady Panthers. Team leaders had terrible body language all game. Lineup choices were extremely questionable. The defense just has to guard 4 of the Drury starters. Its obvious this team overlooked their opponent. They have some serious soul searching to do.

                            • A 19 point win for the Panthers against a big, athletic, skilled and experienced Central Missouri team. Drury led by 24 points at one point as the mules were never close after the first couple minutes in the first half.

There were a lot of great performances tonight, led by Juok Riak, who continues to cause huge problems on both sides of the ball for the opposing team. He even stole the dribble from a mule guard in the backcourt. People forget he only played 19 games last season as a true freshman.

                              "Highway 13 Catfight" is Monday.

Yea thats a bad loss, but how many teams in the GLVC are going to be Drury?

Over/under on the Grand Valley matchup in a couple weeks? I think if Drury can keep it under 30 that's a win.
