  • Re: G-MAC All-Sports and Conference Business Thread

KWC is a better than average D2 team. They lost some very close games, but they have won their last seven games.

They have a young team that turned the corner after three close losses late in the season. I would be surprised to see them higher than a seven seed.

The good news is the team as a whole will gain more experience in the Regional. They have proved they can compete with the best in the region. Really any team in the Regional could win it. UMSL was a surprise. The GLIAC could produce the 1 seed. I have not checked their tournament scores. Massey has all the teams ranked, but Wesleyan's last seven wins are not counted yet. And, Massey is not the Regional selection committee.

If KWC can land a high quality pitcher or two, they will be really good next season. They are a better offensive team than they are defensively.

With the conference championship and D2 tournament appearance, they will probably be able to attract some high talent locally. This team can also compete and win against the new teams coming in next season.

Neither of our lacrosse champions made the tournament. Both games produced upset winners, so I guess it's not unexpected (especially given the very small-brackets for this sport)

KWC got the 8 seed and will play the 1 seed UMSL in that four team division opening round tourney.

USI will host the other four team Midwest division tournament.

They break the Region into two four team double elimination tournament divisions. Makes sense.

CU Softball is playing in the NCCAA tournament. I think its a great decision. CU views the NCCAA (in all sports) pretty much like most view the NIT. If you don't make the D2 playoff, its a chance to extend your year, keep your kids together a bit longer and get experience. Not sure why the wheels feel off late in the season for this team. Prior to the last week of the season, their only conference losses were very understandable ones in split-series with TNU and KWC. Then, they lost to Ursuline the last week of the season and would have had a loss to D&E that same week but for rain/lightning in the 5th inning. You could tell going into the tourney that they had lost some mojo - and that continued into the tourney. Final exams are over, the pressure is off and the NIT is a good venue to get a little more experience for this young team (they had no seniors this year). I like the decision.

BTW - while our tournament is at Prasco Park, the GLIAC tournament will be up the road at the Athletes in Action Baseball Field (same complex that G-MAC uses for softball).

I was looking at some of the Prasco Park photos, and noticed that they keep the G-MAC logo on the outfield fence year-round. The below photos were taken during a FS1 televised Xavier/Seton Hall game.

Crap. CU was already a big underdog in its opening game with top-seeded TNU. Adding fuel to the fire - Malone swept all three of the G-MAC player awards last night. Mad Trojans could make this a very ugly game.

Looks to me to be an interesting well balanced tourney. Being a part of the G-MAC has been great for many of the students. I hope we get more of the same next year.

CU kept TNU off the board until the 6th. Lost 0-2. Played them tough. Got to win the next one.

Agreed. I think every school except for OVU has won some kind of championship during the early years of the G-MAC. It's provided a good place to transition to D2 (CU, TNU, UC) or re-build/re-work/re-invent (KWC, AB, D&E, OVU). Obviously, the stakes are raised next year. I'm excited to see where this conference goes.

I guess with CU out, this is a good time to root for OVU to get a championship.

I need help understanding baseball and softball seeding and who is home team. First games are easy but after that I find it hard to follow who plays who and why.

I would follow the chart/schedule but that seems to have gone out the window.

It will go up. Football was desperately needed. The last out for the softball tournament was posted last Sunday on the KWC athletic Facebook page in a short video clip. It currently has over 400 likes just on their immediate page with over 120 shares, moderately viral with over 2,000 followers.
