  • Re: G-MAC All-Sports and Conference Business Thread

    The short version:

    - TNU and KWC have no losses (and play each other next)
    - OVU and MAL have 1 loss each (and play each other next in an elimination game)
    - CU and AB are already out

    No games today.

Doesn't it seem that the two undefeated teams would play the teams that have lost instead of each other? Then at the end play the best two out of three if they win.

Com'on man - Your boys are in the winners bracket. My boys are back on campus cleaning out their lockers!

It just seems to me a team should be rewarded for winning not punished and the two best teams should have the best chance of being in the last game.

I think I do not understand double elimination brackets.

That is how a six team double elimination is set up. The loser between TNU/KWC will play the winner of Malone and OVU. Seeding in that manner rewards the team with no losses with one less game. It seems not to make sense, but the Championship game rewards the 1 seed in that way.

You lose one game and you have to play six to win. You lose neither of your first three and you can win it with four.

TNU is in the same boat as KWC. They have to play each other. The games will be interesting, because there was not any love lost between TNU and KWC last season, and they did not play each other this season thus far.

KWC beat TNU twice to win the softball Championship, if I am not mistaken. Believe me, TNU is not eager to play KWC at this point. With one day of complete rest, the teams will be fresh.

The first round was set up to give you a second round that theoretically should feature 1-vs-4 and 2-vs-3, plus an elimination game between 5 and 6.

I think the 4 seed is actually probably the worst draw for making it to a third game. If the seeds hold, you need to play the 3 and the 1 in your first two games.

But, like alumni pointed out - "just keep winning" is the quickest way to the championship.

Thank you I did notice the difference in games needed to be played in the softball tourney. Now how does "who is home team get decided"? Again it seems like the higher seed should be home team.

I think I get it. The reward for winning is rest. Very important in a sport where one player has so much impact.

                    Not sure.

For the second round - it looks like they just flip-flopped home and visitor (if you were home in the first round, you were now the visitor). Not sure if that was intentional or just worked out that way.

For the third round (where both games feature teams with the same record) - it seems like they made the better seed the home team.

I'm not sure if we ever noted this before or not - The volleyball schedule for next year shows divisions:

West Division: TN, KW, OD, CU, UF, HC
East Division: AB, DE, OV, UC, LE, MU, WU
there is no traveling to the teams in the other division, but they will play each in a cross-over tournament.

I don't think they use divisions for any other sports next year. Baseball says it uses divisions, but you still play everybody - the difference being three games series against teams in your division versus two against out of division teams. It sounds like you are still traveling to all schools.

Not sure if they will later utilize an East/West geographical split for other sports, or if this just worked out for volleyball and North/South is just as likely to appear for other sports. Anyway, it caught my eye.

Wesleyan took a licking in the first game only going five innings, lost 11-1. The trend in a NCAA tournament like this one is to save your best pitcher for the second round. I think they will do better.

They started the first inning loading the bases and the pitcher for UMSL started throwing the heat. Hopefully, they can win the game in the second round. Playing the 1 seed in the Regional on their home field was a big task.

They have played 49 games thus far. That's a lot of games. They have to be sore. No time to lick their wounds. Eat, sleep and play one more with your best pitcher.

I bet KWC brings in a few more girls who can play utility roles and can pitch next season. Remember their six best players are freshmen and sophomores.

Congrats KWC - on the championship game. TNU now has to play the winner of the two teams remaining in the loser's bracket.

You are getting a great player but an even better young man! Two great HS only three miles apart and a real great feeder program for all sports!

My Brother-in-law used to teach at Brownsburg. I went to a decent number of games with him through the years. I remember that the Hamilton Southeastern schools usually packed a punch (in all sports).

BTW, our newest volleyball recruit is from Westfield, so it looks like CU is mining the Hoosier Crossroads hard.
