The elephant in the G-MAC room is how gawd awful the KWC athletic department has been thus far this academic year. I mean it is terrible. I hope basketball brings a change in the win loss column. This maybe the absolute worst Fall athletic season KWC has ever seen. Extend all the coaching contracts again for next year. They must not even be paying the coaches. I try to be optimistic, but something is wrong and KWC needs to fix it. Wesleyan seems like they have given up on most sports outside of basketball, baseball, and softball.

Wasn't this also a concern when KWC was in the GLVC and ultimately left?

You can look the records up if you want. Pretending everything is fine doesn't help. What's worse is not caring, and don't equate me to the USI bunch.

Which records would you like to compare? Show the records for the last six years and compare them to this years. KWC is not ever going to be a power house in some sports. We do not have the money or the drive. Kids have fun and we are not always on the bottom. If you do not wish to be compared to USI then get your facts straight before blasting..just makes you look bad.

Golf is doing as good or better than they have in a long time, both men and women. Women's soccer is doing better than they have in a long time. Football has had worse seasons, but nobody should act surprised that they are not competing well with league opponents. The year they had such great results, what 2-3 years ago, they didn't play anyone. Their whole schedule that year was filled with teams like USI plays in their basketball nonconference schedule. I said that at that time.

My primary concern is football in the Fall semester. I'm not criticizing the student athletes. Money helps a lot. Back a few seasons ago I sat in front of the head coach from Brooklyn and a KWC booster who were talking during one of the KWC invitational basketball tourneys. The booster told the coach that the basketball team pretty much funds the entire athletic department.

That may or may not be the case now. I saw a drop in attendance during the coaching change. Coach Lee did the best he could and he did a good job. I support Happy. He knows that. However, the athletic department would be helped greatly if the KWC football team were more successful. This is an ongoing situation. I know coach Holsclaw is a very good man. However, if the athletic department really wants success, the football team has to really compete in the G-MAC.

I am certainly sympathetic to all the Fall team coaches. It just makes financial sense to fill the stands for football. KWC can do that by winning more games. The answers are not simple.

I really am looking forward to the new wrestling program. The high school where I wrestled no longer has a wrestling team due to a tragedy when a young coach died in a freak situation when his heart stopped. I have no doubt that wrestling has the most intense conditioning than all of the other sports.

If Owensboro gets behind the new wrestling team at KWC it could make a difference. There really is a wealth of HS talent in KY and Southern Indiana. Hoptown, Christian county and Union county along with Mater Dei could easily field a great program, along with HS wrestlers from Louisville. My hope is that a coach from Mater Dei and one of the Ervin family members from Union County will help head up the program, IF they would. However, the lack of collegiate programs in the area will help immensely in regards to recruiting. I am sure there is no lack of interest for the Head Coaching position.

I too worry about football. It seems to me we get out coached many games. I have backed off some do the number of young players we have. If they improved and get stronger we will be better. We need to NOT be asleep and get out coached!!

Thank you! Today's game was a prime example. It just baffles me. Year after year.

BTW - Thomas More still hasn't stated where they are going.

Its now been a few month's since I posted the newspaper article that said the Saints might be looking to move to NCAA Division II. I've seen nothing since then. In the article, their (now former) football coach stated that he thought they would make an announcement in the fall. We are quickly approaching Winter solstice.

I still think that TMC ends up in the DIII Heartland, but continue to monitor.

2018 Prediction - The Alderson-Broaddus football team will improve from a 3-8 record in 2017 to 8-3 in 2018. Go Battlers!
