Originally posted by UFSwimDad View PostWell if there are going to be any surprises, which I highly doubt right now, this would be the timeframe for some sort of announcement. Spring semester has ended, only a hand full of teams still competing in spring sports. Early June looks like the prime time for an announcement. I feel more confident in that happening on June of 2018!

Don't read too much into the Urbana inclusion. Like I said, that was purely for entertainment purposes. Just an exercise showing how many profile-fitting schools are in a slightly expanded footprint. All are current D2s except for two NAIA's.

I've said before that if/once momentum starts going the G-MAC way, there may be enough profile-fitting schools for two conferences, so....
The Great Mid-East Athletic Conference:
Mercyhurst*
Gannon*
Seton Hill*
Ashland*
NDC*
Lake Erie*
Walsh*
Malone*
WJU
AB*
D&E
WVW*
Charleston*
OVU
+ UC for women's sports
The Great Mid-West Athletic Conference:
Hillsdale*
Findlay*
Tiffin*
ODU*
Cedarville
Urbana*
UIndy*
Taylor*
IWU*
KWC*
BU
TNU
* Football
**This is purely for entertainment purposes.
Any NAIA Program can be taken off that list, and I'm not sure which of those are. IMO, the NCAA has slammed the door on all NAIA programs for a reason. The NAIA is older than the NCAA, and it has a place in college athletics.
Why Urbana? Why even give them a second shot. They got what they wanted. I would say the same for NDC, but I have a different feeling about them.
It was stated by the G-MAC from the beginning that if any school sought admission into the G-MAC from the GLVC, that would have to be worked out directly by the two Commissioners.
In fact, IMO, everything in D2 goes through the offices in Indianapolis, including the NCAA office. The NCAA probably dictates most D2 conference moves. Maybe, they will open the door again for new transitioning programs from the NAIA, but not until the NAIA is restructured itself.
Bellarmine may very well go D1. I doubt they will. USI definitely needs to go D1.

Add to this the GLVC situation where they only have 6 football schools and could possible lose another. Things appearing to be percolating, ready to boil over sooner rather thank later. I wouldn't expect anything major in the near future but I have to believe that this time next year, here will be significant changes to the GLVC, GLIAC, GMAC, and the MEC. Best part is that the GMAC can pick and choose now.
All things considered, you should add the PSAC to that list too. With the PASSHE system and state legislature both having consultancy groups doing reviews on potentially consolidating or closing some of the 14 state schools, we could see some movement there. It's incredibly doubtful there would be a large number of changes to the state system but if the state recommends closing some shools, Cheyney drops athletics, and/or any of the four not-state schools get poached by the GMAC, MEC or GLIAC, they may feel compelled to go out and get a one or two replacement schools. With both reviews due by the end of the year, that will add stuff into the mix. They may be at 18 schools now, but who knows what they'll looking at this time next year.

Funny enough, I thought one of the reasons they didn't announce them earlier (their name has been visible on the 2018 MLAX schedule for months now) was because maybe they were joining in other sports as well (like swimming or wrestling).

I believe even more now that Wheeling is eventually going to become a full member at some point sooner rather than later!
