Re: New bellarmine thread
In the "reloading" vein, apparently BU signee Sean McNeil is having a great run, leading his squad deeper into the Sweet 16:

Re: New bellarmine thread
Scouting report on Colorado Mines:
Two word report: Wisconsin Parkside.
Very capable guards with some big competent front line players.
I watched their last game against West Texas A&M. West Texas A&M did not impress me, so obviously one game is not definitive. Mines leading scorer, Gokul Natesan, is a long shooting guard. He is not a high percentage shooter and he will jack up some stupid shots. I was more impressed with Luke Schroepfer who is a 6'2" guard who shoots 50% for 3's and has made 94 of them for the year.
They have a deep front court with some good size and bulk. All of them appear to be good rebounders.
They had an excellent record for the year, only losing 4 times. Three of their losses, however, were to mediocre to bad teams, which is a little difficult to explain. They won quite a few close games. I have to question their overall strength of schedule. On the plus side they beat Fort Lewis (a perrenially highly regarded team) 3 times, but I don't really see another high quality team on the schedule.
I think BU will be giving away some size, but will probably have a significant edge in quickness, meaning look for Eberhard and Davis to have good games. Keep them off the offensive boards and guard the three (in other words, the usual) and we will be in a position to win.
Non-basketball note on Mines: Every one of their players is an engineering major or computer science major. It has to be difficult to recruit really good players who are capable of performing in the class room. They are a great example of real student athletes.

Re: New bellarmine thread
Another outstanding performance by this kid Sean McNeil yesterday. His team, Cooper High, is now in the state finals. Looks like another 1st team all-state player joining the Knights next year. Looks like he could be a freshman year contributor like Troutman, Cook and Weyer.

I agree. His performance in the tournament has been impressive. The fact that his team is defense-oriented is also a plus, but he can also fill it up. He scored 7 of the 10 points in the decisive run in the 4th quarter.

Re: New bellarmine thread
Catholic Sports Net got a couple articles on the Knights. I think Najjar must be in Sioux Falls.

And Billy Reed had a good column about the regional universities in KY (EKU, NKU, Murray, Morehead) staying in DI. Mentions BU and how good it can be in the lower divisions, cautioning BU on any thoughts of going DI. I agree with him on that one.
