He's one of those guys who might not do anything of note for 35 minutes and then hit three or four 3's in the final 5 minutes and just kill you.

Unfortunately for non-NWMSU fans, the Bearcats also picked up a transfer from our neck of the woods (the NSIC). Joey Witthus was 2nd Team All-NSIC at MSU-Mankato this year and would've easily been 1st Team if he hadn't injured his leg about halfway (maybe 2/3 of the way?) through the conference season. He was probably Mankato's all-around best player before his injury, and he will definitely contribute immediately for the Bearcats. Unless they suffer some injuries (or Pitts gets abducted by his alien family and returned to his home planet), I will be incredibly surprised if NWMSU isn't back at the Elite Eight in 8 months.

I just hope the Vikes are better equipped this year to at least hang with them or pull off the upset if we meet in the Regional Tournament. This past year they got us pretty good. Wouldn't be shocked if the Knights are there too. Then again, you guys have a brutal region. As always, it should be a fun year. Being a basketball guy, I'm ready to just bypass football entirely and get on with basketball season.
Good info, Mr. A. I do think NWMSU has to be the favorite to win it all again this coming year. I do think your region though is more difficult this coming year than the Midwest. I really only see two good teams in the Midwest, BU and Findlay. There's a couple of solid teams in the GLVC such as UIndy and Parkside but not sure they will be good enough to get past the top 2. The GMAC is pretty much just UF and KWC. Think the other two teams will either be Drury, USI or unknown GLIAC clubs. I just really don't know what the GLIAC will be like with the great migration to the GMAC.

A couple of years ago, during a break at one of Scotty's weekly TV shows, he was talking with several of us at the table about putting together a trip to Hawaii. That would certainly a good recruiting draw.

I would have to add Indy and Ferris State to the list of Midwest contenders.

I have never understood why Bellarmine has not had a resort type preseason event. Rules allow it every other year and it does seem like something that could help recruiting.

            I am hoping for:
            1. a redo of Knights Hall
            2. a trip to Hawaii
            3. big name D1 transfer third (mainly only third because I don't think it is as vital as the first two this year)
            4. big exhibition game against UK, Duke type team in some nice resort area.

            What I don't want:
            1. D1 status
            2. Those darn columns staying!

I looked back at the quote from Bozich and realized that was his words and not Scotty's. That makes me worried that it is the D1 thingy. I really don't want the D1 thingy! Please make it go away!

You and I are polar opposites on this. I would be pumped at an "Augustana is going D1" announcement. If that's the case for you, congrats, even though you wouldn't be excited about it.

Can you go D1 only in basketball and stay D2 in other sports or is it an all in thing? Cannot remember

I believe the only standalone D1 sport you can offer is hockey, but I could be mistaken.

                    Regardless, I know you can't go basketball-only.

Actually, Bellarmine is already D1 in Lacross. I don't think you could go D1 in basketball and nothing else. Although there are many schools that are D1 in basketball but not football.

I too, would not be excited about D1. I will admit, however, that competitively it is difficult to stay D2 with so many schools going D1. The reason I do not want to see D1 is that the University of Louisville is the most profitable D1 basketball team in the country. This city supports them like the NBA. I am just not sure the city would support Bellarmine if it were D1 and right now I prefer being a D2 power to going to March Madness once in a blue moon and then losing in the first round.

I'd like to know which schools are D1 in basketball but not football. I could be really mistaken, but I'm almost positive that's not how it works. Unless maybe there was a rule that changed over time and those schools were already grandfathered in.

There are several that are D1 in basketball and don't have football at all (Nebraska-Omaha, for example), and there are a handful that are D1 basketball and non-scholarship D1 football (Drake) but I don't know of any that are D1 basketball and lower level (D2, D3, NAIA) in football. Just my understanding though, and I could very easily be proven wrong, as my wife can attest to in pretty much every aspect of our marriage.

Dayton is one off the top of my head. I know they used to be D3 in football, not sure if they still are.

NCAA removed the ability for D1 programs to play down several years ago. There's still non-scholarship football programs, but they play among themselves largely in the Pioneer Conference. Some big time hoops programs like Butler, Davidson, and Valpo in that league.

This is correct. There are no D1 basketball programs that play football at any level other than the D1 level. The Pioneer League doesn't have scholarships but are still in FCS.

Mr. Mr- this next list is sometimes called 1-AAA. They don't have football at all. I think that the list is missing the following schools that should be included- Coppin State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford and New Orleans.
