Yes. It was the Billy Minardi classic and a D1 school pulled out during the summer.

Technically, it was the "NABC Classic," but "to-may-to, to-mah-to." It was Minardi Classic-esque.

Just heard a radio commercial for O'Reilly Auto Parts, which made me think of Drury's fine arena. And that made me wonder if the big announcement is a renovation with corporate naming rights. How about "Norton Healthcare Knights Hall" or "Brown-Forman Knights Hall"? I doubt that will happen, but it is fun to think about.

Also had a random off-season thought: I still think Donnie Hale could've been a major contributor for the Knights if he'd stuck around (to his credit, the departure was for family reasons).

Aren't all the D1 schedules out by now? I can't imagine a big time program not already having their schedules set.

Actually there are several that are announcing by the day. Minnesota Gopher men haven't put one out yet.

The VCU Rams have released the 95th non-conference schedule this offseason.

For D2, I've counted 138 released with 157 to go. Looks like we are doing better than D1, though I'm not really sure what counts as an official release. I'm just watching for websites to update to something that appears complete.

I was thinking about the big, big, big announcement again and it occurred to me that this thing started soon after Scotty signed the "Coach for Life" extension. To me that would make it something that Scotty really really wanted and he got the President to agree to it to get him to sign. Now I'm not exactly sure what Scotty would want. Not sure he has that much pull to make the school go D1 though, but I am not sure he is concerned with those damn columns as much as us rabid fans either. But I have to think it is facility-related. Whether it is another update to KNights Hall, or an agreement to play some games at Freedom Hall or even YUM!, I can't imagine what it will be, except get ready for the big fund drive!

I am leaning toward BU playing in a D1 school's early season round robyn. Its the kind of thing you can't announce until the host team makes it public.

New speculation on big, big, news. UC is renovating its arena, maybe they are playing an exhibition in Knights Hall. Cronin and Scotty are pretty tight.

Man, that would be a letdown and not very exciting, especially since BU and UC already seem to play every year (albeit up in Cincy).

Besides, don't the rules forbid a D-I from playing at a D-II or something like that? I recall Crean, when he was at IU, wanting to play an exhibition at Bellarmine, but I think Scotty said the rules wouldn't allow it.

I did not realize it was against the rules for D1 to play exhibit at D2. Shot that speculation down.

Yes, Schnautza posted the rule over int he non-conference games thread. Exhibitions against D2 teams must be played at the D1 home site.

Additionally, on that thread Schnautza found three more pre-conference games for BU. All of them are on the road. Going down to play Barry and Lynn down at Barry. I hear "Road Trip!" I think that is exciting for us BU nerds but don't think that even gets one 'big" from Bozich.
