What time is practice? I forget, getting old

Not sure -- until very recently, I lived out of town and couldn't pop in to try to catch them. If you find out, let me know.

Seems like practice is at 3:00 most days and 12:00 on Fridays.

Went to the season ticket holder reception last night. The team was practicing. I was told by a person in the know that Cook will not be practicing with the team until the semester ends. He was, however, there and in work out uniform last night. If he does not practice, he will be way behind. I am guessing that he will only see limited playing time when he comes back. This academic problem could not have come at a worse time for his basketball development. Freshman to sophmore is usually the biggest leap forward.

I was also at the reception. Cook's problems are not academic (he has a 3+ GPA) and is not related to the team. He was suspended by the University for a serious violation of university rules. Since he is not a student currently, he is formally not part of the team until he can re-enroll - end of semester. He was allowed to have his picture included with the team on media day since it is expected he will return 2nd semester. Workouts are on his own.

That is not what has been made public and its not what I heard from some of his family members. I don't claim to actually know, but the official story was that he had a problem with one class, despite doing well in everything else. He is supposedly still in school and took classes over the summer. What you say, however, makes some sense. It is surprising that Scotty would allow someone to stay on the team who committed an act that was serious enough to get him suspended from the school. In fact, Scotty issued a very supportive statement when his suspension was announced. Smells like some form of academic fraud, like plagiarizing a paper, which would encompass all these things. But again, I don't know. There does seem to be serious committment from everyone that he is coming back.

By the way, the North Carolina case makes it clear that it is up to the individual school to enforce academic standards, not the NCAA.

The setup for the game tomorrow night takes yours truly back to the salad days of undergrad, when BU hosted KWC at Freedom Hall in the early '90s (without looking, pretty sure it was 1991). I believe both were top ten-ish squads at the time, and the Knights snagged a double-digit win in front of a good crowd (maybe 5K). Guessing that's the largest crowd for a Bellarmine "home" game.

I read in that recent C-J piece where Scotty would like to get 10-12K in the house for the UC game. I'd love that, but fear it may be a little ambitious. Looking forward to it and have my fingers crossed for a tremendous turnout.

As far as Cook, he's my guy, and I look forward to him coming back. I would think that, if the problem was something severe, he would not be in the team photo, in uniform at various events, getting that statement of support from Scotty, and generally hanging around the team.

I'm doing my share to support Scotty's dream, I bought 10 tickets last night. I would guess the crowd will be around 3,000.

I presume that the starting five for the first real game of the season is going to be Coles, Jenkins, Eberhard, Weyer, and Corbett. I would expect to see a lot of three (small) guard lineups, however, with Chitty, Fleming and Bach getting a good share of minutes. Taylor looked to be in good shape last night, so he should be getting some solid playing time. I am still not sure about how much we will see Hunter and Ramser. I look for Ben Weyer to make the big leap to sophomore year and be the most improved. (50% of the improvement Eberhard made would make Weyer a very good player). Scotty will probably spread the minutes out quite a bit in the UC game, and then tighten them up in the UofL game.

i'll be at the game too (only bought two tickets though). Agree with the starting lineup except I'm not sure Corbett has had enough time to mesh into the lineup yet (?).

Drury had one of the best D2 games against Duke when they led by 5 at the first media timeout of the second half. Eventually lost by 17.

Yeah, I remember reading about that -- was a good one.

Bellarmine's game down there was a very respectable performance as well. If memory serves, the Knights were down 3 right before halftime and had the ball, but a turnover and layup led to a 5-point halftime deficit. Think the Blue Devils' lead was still only single digits or so until their size wore down BU with about 10 minutes to go. Lead was around 15-20 before BU eventually fell by 25. I imagine lots of solid D-I squads haven't done as well at Cameron as Bellarmine, Drury, and Northwest Missouri State.

As for the UC game, I think, if things work out, we could get 5-6K in the house. In particular, I'm looking forward to checking out Corbett, Chitty, and Fleming.
