I was impressed with the newcomers in the practice on Monday evening. The past few years, however, Scotty has typically used different starting lineups in the exhibition games. Not sure if he will follow that trend this year, but it will be interesting to see if the team chemistry is affected with the newcomers.

The past several years, we have played Cincy close on their floor. They don't seem to be as intimidated in their games against Cincy as they have vs UL, Indiana or Dayton. However, Cronin has everyone back and their bigs can score inside and are decent 3-point shooters. We may have a harder time this year keeping the score as close.

Good marketing here and nice to see what Bellarmine is doing with the pre game T Shirts. The casual basketball fan has no clue how good top level D II basketball is. Every casual fan I have had attend a game with me has come away shocked at the size and talent. Fans just need to give it a chance and they won't be disappointed.

It was Oladapo Fagbenle in the 2009-2010 season. He was the starting center. In fact, one of the games he missed was a close road loss to Drury. Nick Holmes, BU's other center, was injured and did not play in that game.

I stand corrected! I didn't doubt that it happened at least once....but was pretty curious as to what the definition of "key" was. Fagbenle would qualify.

Great to have the season starting! Having seen many of these exhibitions over the last 8 years or so, it is obvious that the big diference between these high ranking D1 teams and the very good D2 teams is the D1 teams play a level of defense that a D2 team is just not accustomed to facing. Bellarmine almost always seems to struggle with adjusting to the defense's ability to cut off their usual passing lanes. They usually make the adjustment at some point of the game. (Similar to the Fairmont State loss last year, not a D1 team, but had D1 length and quickness at multiple positions). Adam Eberhard will be the key, he needs to pass the ball effectively without turning it over. I do think that D1 teams are susceptable to the back door because they overplay the passing lanes at the top. Eberhard is going to need to force his man to play him on the perimeter by making an early 3. Then look for him to go to the hoop and be a play maker.

Fun night at Freedom Hall, although we sure could've used Cook. Chitty is already an impact player. Think Fleming will be good, although he seems to be maybe a year or so away (I know people have made the Kendle comparison, but Kendle had at least a year of junior college before coming to Bellarmine). Also hopeful about getting some good minutes this season from Corbett, Taylor, and Hunter.

Tough to analyze things for BU given the length and quickness and SIZE of the opposition but I agree that without a doubt Chitty is going to be a major contributor this year. He looks like a slasher/drive to the basket type guy that likes to get out and run on the fast break. Corbett is going to need time to get accustomed to playing Bellarmine's offense and in your face defense. We could have used Cook. Looks like Hunter is likely to get more minutes than Corbett or Taylor at this point but things can change as the new guys get into the groove. Fleming has body type similar to Kendle but with 4 guards in front of him will not get significant minutes until next year in my opinion.

Chitty was definitely the best of the newcomers. It looks like it will be hard to keep him out of the starting lineup, regardless of whether he starts, he will be getting as many minutes as any guard on the team. Ramser played as many minutes as anybody on the team and looked good, despite missing a couple of chippies. The rotation may have not gone quite as expected because of Eberhard's foul trouble. It will be interesting to see what Scotty does against MSJ and UofL as far as rotations. I'm guessing that it will be very different. Not sure if last night's starting lineup will be the starting line up for the first real game, although it might be.

I truly hope that CJ Fleming turns out to be a great player, but his shooting technique is bad and technique matters. I honestly can't think of anybody who was a high percentage jump shooter who had lousy technique. He could still be an effective playmaker and slasher to the basket, but it's hard to envision him being a major scoring threat. Davenport's offense is built around stretching the defense to make it try to guard the outside shot, if the defense can sag off your point guard, it limits the offense.

If I remember correctly, Fleming's free throw techniques looked pretty good, its just his jump shot looked godawful. I thought Hunter and Ramser looked good at times.

That game was Chitty! Meaning that Chitty was the player I was really impressed with. Gots to have me more Chitty! Everyone else was closer to the sh instead of the ch kind last night. That's not exactly fair as Cincy is the biggest, quickest team they will play all year (UofL is close) and most of the missed and blocked shots would not have occurred against d2 competition. The turnovers, as well, were caused by Cincy, and we won't see that as much in the regular season.

I think it may take Corbett a little more time to get into the flow of the BU way. He will be a big contributor before too long. Ramser looked decent but I think he was responsible for some of the breakaway layups by Cincy early on. That was the most disappointing phase of that game. Nobody was getting back for about 3-4 minutes. Hunter looks like he is ready to get some major minutes as well. I like Coles, he is solid in every aspect of his game, but man I really like Chitty! He is the Kendle clone not so much Fleming. He goes all out the entire time he is in the game. On defense he is pretty tenacious. Couldn't really tell his quickness level against the Cincy speed but he made several deflections and had his hand in everything. Now of course he fouled out so maybe he needs to tone that down a bit. Its only one exhibition game, too so I shouldn't get my expectations up yet for the guy.

The worst thing last night that I'm sure we will not see again was the atrocious free throw shooting. It was around 50% but with several front-end of the bonus missed. Thing was, it was guys like Eberhard that were missing. That won't happen much I'm sure.

Yeah, can't wait to see more of that sweet Chitty action. He's going to be a good one, and I'm particularly keen on a starting lineup of Coles or Jenkins, Chitty, Cook (assuming he's back next month), Weyer, and Ebby, with Bach playing a lot too if not starting as a third guard.

I also really like the idea of sandwiching in the cupcake game on Saturday, to get the newcomers some experience and boost confidence for the young guys.

That drove me nuts too. Wonder if the background of a cavernous arena, rather than the friendly confines of Knights Hall or some such, had any impact.

I would have liked to see more of Caleb Taylor. Even though he missed all his shots, I thought he looked good shooting them and was pretty aggressive. He got a couple of big boy rebounds, but he only played 5 minutes. I don't mean to say that I think Taylor is deserving of more minutes, only that I am curious about how he could do with more playing time. Scotty knows who is deserving and who is not.
