Re: New bellarmine thread
Yes, indeed -- great news about Weyer.
Heard it from a reliable source that Parker Chitty and Skyler Hunter are both still on the team. Chitty will be great. And I think that Hunter is due for something of a "breakout season," but this squad is so deep that one has to wonder how everybody is going to get minutes (admittedly a nice problem to have).

Our guy Scotty indicating that Jenkins will be playing this season (also just nice to see the program getting off-season coverage):

Re: New bellarmine thread
In the WLKY video Scotty mentions 11 returning players, 4 incoming Freshmen and 2 transfers. When I count returning players I get 11 if I include Weyer so that should end the discussion for now. Seventeen total players, a dozen or more who are good enough to see some playing time. Will be an interesting year no doubt.

[I am waiting for the USI folks to comment on the fact that we don't see Watson in a clip like that!]

Re: New bellarmine thread
Depth is a good problem to have, but it actually can be a problem. Coaches, including Scotty, can overcoach during a single game. They can go nuts with the substituting. Admittedly, if you watch practice, it is completely geared to interchanging parts constantly, but sometimes I'd just like to see the five to seven best guys get more playing time together in a game. The truth of the matter is that Bellarmine is going to have only a few close games this season, so the playing time is going to get divied up pretty evenly. We won't really know what the starting lineup will be until the first real game. I can tell you one thing, however, Adam Eberhard and whatever other four guys Scotty puts out there, are going to be by far the best team in the league.
If Jenkins is really full strength, the starters will be Chitty, Jenkins, Corbett, Cook, Eberhard. It is nearly inconceivable that Bellarmine could have guys as good as Weyer and Palumbizio coming off the bench.(They may not even be the first guys in because I could easily see C.J. Fleming replacing any starter, potentially playing three guards, which is standard in D2 basketball). Eberhard is the only guy who I can state categorically will be starting. Every other player is looking at extreme competition for his starting spot and every minute of playing time. If any freshman gets extensive playing time, write him down as a future All-America.
Scotty does not seem to use red shirting, except for medical red shirts, but it may be useful for one or two freshman. I notice that Truman red shirted just about every one of their players at some point. Scotty is so confident in his ability to identify and recruit great players that he doesn't need to stockpile talent and he probably has assured them that he won't red shirt any of them.

Re: New bellarmine thread
Daniel Raymer is deserving of significant playing time even if he doesn't start. He is Scotty's kind of player - a team guy who does whatever you ask of him. I know sometimes we get frustrated when he streaks for the basket and Ebby hits with a pass only to see him miss the layup, but there are many more times he does something positive including his defensive assignment.

It certainly will be interesting to see the initial rotations and how the evolve as the season progresses. Personally, with the wing-type small forwards on the roster, I'd like to see BU take a stab at starting only two guards.
