I'm confident the sleuths on this message board can easily come up with the missing details.

yes. DUPanther broke the news on this forum last week. There is a thread on it although there is the usual nonsense thrown in mainly from USI posters. It does seem that UWP thinks the GLVC has overreacted to some minor violations. Wonder if they are going to leave the conference.

I saw the William Jewell 2017-2018 schedule online and it looks like they play 10 teams once and four teams twice (Rockhurst, Truman, Drury and UMSL). So does that tell me 3 divisions of 5 each? If so I guess that means Maryville, McKendree, M S&T, Quincy and UIS are the second "western" division and BU, USI, Indy, UWP and Lewis are the eastern five? If that's the set up, that means most of the historic "tough" teams will play each other twice in the east.

St Joes ceased operations last year. I think that is the only school no longer in the GLVC.

          3 pods of 5 each:

          1. Drury, S&T, Jewell, Rockhurst, Truman
          2. Quincy, Maryville, UIS, McKendree, UMSL
          3. Indy, Bellarmine, USI, Lewis, Parkside

I think you play everyone in your pod twice and everyone else once.

Looking at the 3 pods and last year's conference results (I know this isn't a perfect way to assess the strength of group but its a pretty clear indicator) you get

            1. 50 wins 40 losses
            2. 20 wins 70 losses
            3. 68 wins 22 losses

Makes obvious that geography and travel costs were the only criteria used to split them up.

Agree, although Parkside could pretty easily go from a conference contender to struggling with their defections. Personally, I think they should've put Lewis and Parkside in with Quincy, Maryville, UMSL and then had Indy, Bellarmine, USI, McKendree, UIS as the other group. That would've made for much better balance and really wouldn't have changed the travel a whole lot.

I expect Lewis and Indy to be improved this season, that pod will probably win more "out of pod" games than last year.

The question about the new player has been resolved, it is D1 xfer Chivarsky Corbett from Deleware. Great news! However, Alex Cook is ineligible in the fall and won't be back until after the first semester. He apparently failed a class in the spring. Not sure if he will be practicing with the team. Also incoming freshman Sean McNeil has quit the team.

Thanks for the scoop -- very interesting.

Corbett will have two years of eligibility, I believe, and should be a good addition:

Sorry to hear about my man Cook, but hopefully he will be back better than ever. Also disappointing to hear about McNeil, about whom I remember reading a number of good things.

You tube video is mostly him shooting 3 pointers. He looks to be long. Hoping he will have a rebounding and defending attitude.

Delaware website says he is 6'7" 195 lbs. Cook out for the fall, MacNeil off the team, ouch that hurts a bit. But it does give some other players a chance to make their mark early in the year.

Very disappointed with Cook, but Scotty made a strong statement of support for him, which he would not do if he didn't have faith in Cook's desire and ability to get and stay eligible. Big question in my mind is whether Cook will be practicing with the team.
MacNeil situation seems strange. I wonder if he was upset with the matriculation of Parker Chitty and realized that he was not going to see a lot of playing time as a freshman. I think his absence has no effect on the upcoming season, but he seemed like the kind of player who could be a big help down the line.

Possible silver lining with Cook situation is that Ramser and Hunter may get more time which will make them better.

If Cook can hit the ground running in December then we should be fine (not sure if he can if he can't practice with the team). Don't know much about the Corbett guy, but if he's good enough for D1 scholarship (I know that is no automatic measure of talent) and if he buys into the BU concept and Scotty's coaching then we should be stronger in the front line by the end of the year than we had anticipated. I agree the McNeil loss is more of a blow to our future prospects rather than this year. I feel like we are loaded in the backcourt for now.

The thing that jumps out to me about Corbett was that he was a preseason all conference pick his sophmore year after having been on the all freshman team after his first season. He obviously was set back by his injury, but this is a guy that was turning heads prior to getting hurt. We have not had a great history with guys who have been hurt and transfer in (with the gigantic exception of Jeremy Kendle). Corbett is a little different in that he played a season at Deleware after the injury, but the impression is that he was not 100% last season. If he is 100% you would have to think that he is an all conference type player for us.

Bellarmine schedule not released yet but I see from the Lynn and Barry schedules published online that BU plays in the Barry invitational tournament Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving Nov. 24 and 25th. The four teams are BU, Grand Valley State, Lynn and Barry.
