Word is that he tore the fascia in one of his feet. Not sure what kind of time table that has for recovery, but it doesn't sound good

Yeah, that doesn't sound good. If these injuries don't heal quickly, we're going to need a Donnie Hale-esque mid-season transfer to come in...

Quick research indicates that is a 12 week healing period. Ugh! (can anybody say "red-shirt"?)

When I saw the open gym there was a 6'7", African American young man (looked 18 or 19 to me) playing with the team. He looked to have some talent and was more than holding his own. I have absolutely no idea who he is, but he certainly made me curious.

As we all here are not really interested in your inner conversations on switching teams, sexually speaking, due to your interest in young athletic males, I will assume you are curious about the man's eligibility for playing basketball for BU. He may either be a walk-on or more likely a player for another school who is friends with one of the BU players. It would be nice if there is some 6'7 player that the team just has not announced though.

Alas, will just be there in spirit. Unless it's a big game, I have a tough time getting down there during the week. Please let us know if you get the scoop on anything good.

Did happen to see the UC games notes on tomorrow's game:

I believe Moves and I should be there. Anybody going to Cincy tomorrow? Got to make that trip, even though I'm pretty sure there is not much hope for the upset this year.

You have a better shot at beating Cincinnati than KWC does at staying in the game at Louisville. The Cardinals are going to beat KWC by about 50 points. I expect Bellarmine to stay close with Cincinnati, probably a 59-50 score.

I guess the big news is that Fredrick is off the team. apparently his dad went to Scotty and told him his son should be the starter. other news Weyer injury isn't as bad as feared and should be ready to start the season. Scotty said Jenkins is like a bigger Whitehead which sounds great.

Well, that's wild. He's still listed on the website roster, but is the only one without a photo with his bio. Not a huge loss, in my opinion. In games, never really seemed to meet that "best shooter on the team" level that would inevitably come up when he was mentioned.

Glad to hear it. Wonder if he'll play in the exhibitions?

That does sound great. Look forward to seeing him in action.

I hope Scotty is right and it is not just hopeful coach-speak. Weyer was noticeably limping and favoring his foot during his walk to center court at the introduction last night. From my own experience, I had plantar fascia surgery to repair the partially torn fascia in Dec 2014. I can tell you I couldn't walk normally until March, much less run at speed or making cuts on the court. During rehab, if you try to run/walk too much or too fast it has a tendency to flare back up.

In the pre-game notes on the BU Athletics site this morning was this:
Despite the great preseason, there is bad news in the Bellarmine locker room as the Knights are heading into the 2016-17 season a little banged up. "We are shorthanded with outstanding freshman product Ben Weyer on the mend from a partially torn plantar fascia and sophomore Rhett Troutman recovering from surgery for compartment syndrome," Davenport said.

Ben is much younger and has medical staff working with him but this type injury is slow to heal. This is the same injury that sidelined Peyton Manning the year before he retired. For the team's sake I hope Ben can make it back on court at full speed by the start of the conference season.

I was impressed last night with the makeover of Caleb Taylor. When he arrived on campus he weighed in at 269 and last week was down to 242. Scotty wants him to play at 232. We will need the depth inside and he has the body to play in the GLVC.

                              Re: New bellarmine thread

I did not make it last night but I am going tonight to the game. I can't believe we will see Weyer until January at best. Moves saw him last night and as #1KF said, Weyer was really limping.

With Frederick gone, I have to believe Scotty was leaning towards a starting backcourt of Davis and Jenkins. I think that is a good omen in a way, since it tells us a little about how good Jenkins will be, in that he is leap frogging a four year senior into the starting lineup. I think he will be an asset especially on the defensive end of the floor. It may put more pressure on Rusty to score though without a pure shooter in the lineup. I do agree with Grad though that Frederick always had the label of the best shooter on the team but had not really lived up to it in game situations. His loss will hurt the depth chart but will give guys like Jenkins and Bach more time to shine. Bach starting will not be a bad thing either. I think it is to the offense what Jenkins will be for defense. If he gets at least 25 minutes a game he will be averaging at least 13 or 14 points.

My prediction on starting lineup tonight:
                              Davis
                              Troutman
Bach (Northern KY boy gets start in Cincy)
                              Eberhard
                              Knott

This is in no way the starting lineup for the regular season. Scotty always does three different starting lineups for the exhibitions. But I bet the only difference in the regular season will be whether Jenkins starts over Bach. I see Cook, Coles and Hunter getting major playing time as well. It will be interesting to see if Taylor is ready yet. His size could be a major factor in this season.

oh just saw the game notes and it lists Davis, Troutman, Cook, Bach and Taylor as probable starters. Interesting that Scotty would start two of the freshmen.

a little bit of hope is that Weyer wasn't in a walking boot, if it was super bad I think they would protect it better. as for starting line ups Scotty never start his starter in pre-season. one year Hobbs didn't start. Scotty himself told me that Weyer injury wasn't as bad as they first feared
