Tonight should be a big night in terms of finding out how good this team is. Saginaw is really good and we will need to play excellent basketball to beat them. I'm confident Scotty will have them prepared but I think our best basketball is down the road and we may take some lumps early. I'm afraid tonight might be one of them.

Agreed. SVSU has to be the favorite to win the regional again. They return 3 starters including CJ Turnage who maybe the best player in the region. I think BU needs a little more time. I see Rusty and Al pressing things a little too much early on until their teammates get into the swing of it. I still believe the team will revolve around Eberhard. If he is on with his passing, shooting and rebounding, they will be hard to beat. He has the skills to be All-American the next 3 years. But he too may force things a little early on. I think they can win tonight but will not be surprised if they get beat.

I don't mind paying the fee for the service, I just think its a bad marketing technique by the schools. Not many people will pay and they might as well try to get as broad exposure as possible.
$7, that's.... inconceivable! (You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.) I ain't paying it! (so can I come over to your house and watch after you pay for it?)

My guess at starting five: Davis, Troutman, Eberhard, Knott and Jenkins. Discuss.

Davis, Troutman and Eberhard are given. I do agree that tonight it's Knott and Jenkins but would not be surprised if Weyer works his way into a starting role when healthy. Expect to see a lot of Alex Cook tonight. Kid has great upside and he has shown that the stage will not be too big for him.

I actually think Bellarmine beats SVSU pretty handily tonight. Bellarmine could have beat them by 30 last year. I think they are the top of the GLIAC but with the way the season ended for BU last year I think they are out for blood. There is also no pressure real on Bellarmine (basically on road and used to high expectations) whereas SVSU is finally playing with some higher expectations than in years past in a virtual home game. I am calling for a comfortable 15-18 point BU win.

Bellarmine is pretty much a completely different team this year (which has its pluses and minuses). They are going to have to play much better away from home than they did last year. I'd love to see the Knights win by fifteen but if I was a Vegas odds maker, I'd make SVSU a 6 point favorite. One thing is that neither Northwood or SVSU is going to be particularly physically intimidating. I think SVSU has some very skilled, experienced players that will play consistently for them all year. The game is winnable, but SVSU is clearly favored. They are not only close to home, I'm sure that their players have multiple games played in the gym. It really is a home game for them.

My impression of Cook from the exhibitions is that he is more athletic than I realized. I believe he will be starting before the season is over. I think Stalker is right on tonight's starting five. Also, George Knott is clearly capable of shooting the rock. His improvement is making me much more optimistic about the season.

              • It is clear that this team is not fundamentally sound. Turnovers and rebounding are the Achilles heel. 11 turnovers in the last 10 minutes. If you looked at the stats those TO's were not by the new players either. What is even harder to swallow is that most were unforced. It has been a recurrent problem in all of the exhibitions and continues.

If we can't take care of the ball it is going to be a long season.

Am on the road and only got to listen to parts of the game, but, yeah, those turnovers in the final quarter or so of the game were a real killer. Had put together a nice comeback up to that point.

Puzzling, but there's good talent (am really liking Cook); following the "in Scotty we trust" policy, I have a feeling the squad will improve considerably as the season goes on.

A somewhat disappointing effort by Bellarmine, considering they are ranked No. 1 in the nation by one poll. As I've said all along, I put no stock in preseason poll conducted by individuals who know nothing about most of these teams additions and off season losses. I think Bellarmine will be a good team, but it sounds like they have way too many new players to be No. 1. I also understand a senior guard quit the team. Is that correct?

Yeah, I think we pretty much all agree that the preseason polls are a joke, but are at least fodder for us when there's not as much to talk about. Agree that Bellarmine still can be good this season -- just a work in progress right now.

It came up a while back, but, yes, apparently senior Nick Fredrick left the team over playing time. Good shooter, but was an underachiever, in my opinion, and it's an "addition by subtraction" type of thing if someone's leaving in that way. Filling guard spots is not a problem.

Looks like the lowly GLIAC might have at least one school that can compete this time around.

Knights could have won the game last night if they had taken care of the ball in the late going. Looks like to me Cook is going to be a key player coming off the bench. As he matures and learns the BU system he should prove to be valuable.

I'm new to the party but am happy to add my opinions to the mix. How much better would BU be if there was a positive leadership approach rather than the current intimidation and psychological gamesmanship approach? Kids "under perform" at this level because they're demotivated. Could you play your best with the threat of being jerked out and berated at your slightest of mistakes? Just an opinion from afar but I've followed BU for 10+ years and that appears to be the situation. I'm sure some of the people on here have a better perspective but that's the general deficiency I have seen. Different kids are motivated different ways and vice versa.

Game on Saturday was much better, although I had trouble with my video feed so I can't say I saw it all. Reducing the turnovers was the big thing. Friday night there was way too many unforced turnovers. Saturday they did much better. Rather weak on defending the 3 though. Allow Northwood to shoot 50% from beyond the arc. That kept them in the game, somewhat. Rebounding still an issue.

I think Cook will be starting soon. Fourteen points in 16 minutes, is pretty darn good. I know Knott is the senior and I can't help but love the way he plays, but there is a lot of difference in talent between he and Cook. It might not happen this weekend but definitely by January. We still haven't seen Weyer yet but I don't think he can pass up Cook now after missing nearly a month.

Cook must be starting for this team before long. If Weyer makes a recovery, I'm guessing he is starting by January. They need his length. I am afraid that injury is going to cause him to lose the whole season as far as meaningful contribution, even if he mangages to get back on the floor.
