Last Saturday, Nebraska held its Shrine Bowl (senior high school all-star game) in Kearney. Believed to be the first live football game played since the pandemic broke out. Players had practice all week long leading up to the game and by all reports everything ran smoothly.
While heavily fragmented, the Northwoods League is, in fact, functioning to some degree. The pod operating in Southwest Michigan announced games will be 5 innings, no extras, and each game is to begin with a home run derby.
My understanding is that the league was fragmented into pods of geographically similar teams all operating out of one ballpark. There will be no league-wide playoffs this season, and each pod will only play each other. Temporary teams have formed to accommodate players from other summer leagues, as well as the American players of the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
