  • D2 2025 NFL Draft Prospects

I posted results from this past draft in the other thread but thought I would start this thread to talk about the 2025 NFL Draft prospects from D2.

I don't see a player that I fully expect to get drafted this early. The top name on my list is Lenoir-Rhyne DT Andre Jefferson and I think he could play his way into the draft.

I feel like Niles King is the most likely GV guy to get draft looks. He's very Judon-esque in his skillset.

I have King as a redshirt junior. Is he a player that could be looking to declare early? If so, and GVSU knows and would not mind, I would love to talk to someone there to get a peak at him before my June 2 deadline to get ratings in for Phil Steele magazine. My goal is to get a few worthy D2 players ranked.

No, you're right. He'll be a RS Junior. I just figure since he tried to get in the portal this off-season (and ultimately went back to GV), he might be looking to get out as soon as he can, whether that is trying to transfer again next off-season, or maybe entering the draft.

I think something that might be interesting, and I don't know if you'd be open to this, would be including guys on your D2 prospects list who end up transferring out from a D2 school. Obviously that's a lot to keep track of, though.

          Not sure if any of the guys will be top D2 NFL prospects, but the players from the GLIAC that NFL scouts will at least be checking on;

          Tyrese Hunt-Thompson - WR -FSU
Preston Smith - WR - DU
Gavin Cossou - TE - GVSU
          Gabe Brown - OG/OT - GVSU
Jacarvis Alexandre - CB - FSU (I think will technically be a Jr, but this is his 5th season I believe, so unsure if he will use extra years - Covid/RS, Med RS).
Joey Mahop - CB - RU
          Ian Kennelly - S - GVSU
Jack Gilchrist - DT - GVSU
Victor Nelson - DT - FSU
Geemontae Peck - DT - DU

          - I may have missed a guy or two but off my top of the head those are the potential GLIAC guys

Whenever I see anything about draft prospects, I can't help but think of the time a Twitter user asked TSNs Craig Button about a Czech draft prospect named Lic Mysak and Button read it live on air.

            Ok back to D2Football. Lol.

I do track where players go and actually have a database of over 2,200 seniors for the 2025 draft but I list players by the last school they played for so if they go to a D2 school I will list them but not if they leave for another level.

Here is something for King and other players to think about. Often times a player who transfers up has less production/playing time the first year they leave but sees an improvement in their second year. If he plays for GVSU this year then I would assume he would have just one year left. If he goes FBS he could be used as a backup while he adjusts to the level of play. There is no COVID year to give him that second year so if he is not used as much he could see what stock he has dip. He should have his coaches give his name to NFL scouts this fall to get some legit feedback. If it looks like he is going to have high stock then he should either come out or have another huge year at GVSU and go in his normal class.

TE Gavin Cossou is likely to get the most interest on GVSU since he is a big body for the position. NFL teams will come on campus to see him and likely take a look at Kyler Blake-Jones, Darrell Johnson,Ian Kennelly, and Cody Tierney so while scouts are there I would get him some NFL feedback.

I was told Gabe Brown ran in the 5.6s so for him to get a strong look he will really need to look a lot faster this fall and run much faster at the senior pro day.

Alexandre could return but he intrigued scouts on film from the fall and will get looks I am told.

I expect Michigan Tech S Buechel, SVSU LB Micah Cretsinger and LB Alfred Dailey to get some looks as well.

I heard about that. That Twitter user should ask a media member about the brothers Pat and Phil Magroin and see if they know about them. lol

Unfortunately, Jay'viar Suggs is off to LSU. =(

You actually don't hear much about Pat and Phil. Their cousin Holden is the star of that family. He gets all of the attention.

I think the strongest candidate from Mines is Max McLeod. Smart receiver and knows how to get yards after the catch. His performance in a non-Matocha offense will be a big indicator of draft worthiness I think

If he doesn't get drafted to the NFL he can join Matocha and Pierce in Toronto.

A couple of UMD guys that I know have been getting looks. Both will need excellent years to be in the draft discussion, and of the two, I think Pitz has the stronger change based on size, speed, and hands.

                            Sam Pitz (TE) 6'6" 245#
                            Aiden Williams (TE) 6'6" 295#

I did not see him on their roster when I last checked so I was not sure. I wonder if he will start or be depth?
