It sounds the same idiotic argument (emphasis on the word 'idiotic') a faction of Steelers fans use against Mike Tomlin, who coached the Steelers to a win in Super Bowl 43 with a significant number of players from Bill Cowher's Super Bowl 40 winning team three years earlier.

For that matter, you might as well take it a step further and say that Frank Cignetti won the 1986 State Game (IUP's first PSAC title won on the field and first league title since 1940, for what that's worth) with a team that, was for the most part, a product of George Chaump.

The biggest problem for those geniuses isn't that they don't study, it's that they don't go to class. At least one failed to show up for his finals. The obvious answer is to recruit better students and if you are going to take a chance on a marginal guy, don't put any faith in him to be there in a year or two. ..... jus sayin

Joe Morehead did similar things at Fordham as Curt has done at Elon. Probably better going winless to undefeated or something like that. Morehead needed a highly succcessful P5 coordinator pitstop before landing a P5 HC job.

We will have to wait several years to see if Tort's recruits are as good or worse than what his predecessor's were.

Here's a little homework assignment for the Waterboy:

Look up Curt's record at IUP against SRU and California. After you find it, please post the answer here.

I think everyone agrees the Cignetti is a great recruiter - I think that goes for choosing assistant coaches too. I think some of us have questions about his game day coaching/game management. Does he beat Ashland last year, or does he go conservative and try to win in overtime ? the 2012 loss to Cal in the last minutes with the flubbed onside kick recovery ? Play calling at the end of the game during the regional Championship against WSSU. He strikes me as the guy who loses the big games by being too predictable. Maybe just bad luck, but it seemed to be a trend here.

You make a good point here. If he ever wants to land a P5 gig, this might be the path.

Curt had nothing to do with landing a generational talent like Max Redfield who transformed the defensive side of the ball. There also has to be doubts if a Curt led team would have been able to mount comebacks against Ashland (IUP down 16-3) and at the Rock (down 10-0 IIRC). I don't remember too many Curt coached teams making comebacks from a double-digit deficit.

The 2017 IUP team (both players and coaches) seemed to relish their freedom and autonomy from the Curt regime and they made the absolute most of it. But it is true that the vast majority of the players were from the Curt years.

Maybe none of Curt's IUP teams has come back from double digit deficits, but in less than 2 years at Elon his team has come from 2 double-digit deficits, 10-0 against Towson in 2017, and 13-3 at Charleston Southern this year. You could also add they came back from a 9-0 deficit on the road against then #2 James Madison this year.

Fair enough. I just recall that didn't seem to be one of his strong suits while at IUP.

In reality, it went up a lot. Far different.

They either fudged numbers under Curt or don't know how to count. Remember about 25% don't even pay for tickets. They just waltz in through one of the 9 gates or openings in the prison fence.
The attendance numbers for football and basketball that show up in the box score are exactly the number that is scanned from the gate. The Olympic sports...well, the attendance is done by counting the people in the crowd.
