Re: Hot Take IUP edition
It sounds the same idiotic argument (emphasis on the word 'idiotic') a faction of Steelers fans use against Mike Tomlin, who coached the Steelers to a win in Super Bowl 43 with a significant number of players from Bill Cowher's Super Bowl 40 winning team three years earlier.
For that matter, you might as well take it a step further and say that Frank Cignetti won the 1986 State Game (IUP's first PSAC title won on the field and first league title since 1940, for what that's worth) with a team that, was for the most part, a product of George Chaump.Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014

We will have to wait several years to see if Tort's recruits are as good or worse than what his predecessor's were.

Here's a little homework assignment for the Waterboy:
Look up Curt's record at IUP against SRU and California. After you find it, please post the answer here.

You make a good point here. If he ever wants to land a P5 gig, this might be the path.

Originally posted by IUP CRIMSON HAWKS View PostAgree that Curt is a terrific football coach. But regarding the 2017 IUP team. Curt had nothing to do with landing a generational talent like Max Redfield who transformed the defensive side of the ball. There also has to be doubts if a Curt led team would have been able to mount comebacks against Ashland (IUP down 16-3) and at the Rock (down 10-0 IIRC). I don't remember too many Curt coached teams making comebacks from a double-digit deficit.
The 2017 IUP team (both players and coaches) seemed to relish their freedom and autonomy from the Curt regime and they made the absolute most of it. But it is true that the vast majority of the players were from the Curt years.

You could also add they came back from a 9-0 deficit on the road against then #2 James Madison this year.

In reality, it went up a lot. Far different.
They either fudged numbers under Curt or don't know how to count. Remember about 25% don't even pay for tickets. They just waltz in through one of the 9 gates or openings in the prison fence.
