I’m by no means a hockey expert but I know enough to know it’s a totally different beast from other sports. The best players are on the ice for a third of the game, if that. You can have a generational player, even two, and you’re not winning a damn thing without a strong organization from top to bottom. Look at the trades they’ve made in their Cup years, the well timed coaching changes. Look at how they didn’t just stand pat from 91 to 92 or from 16 to 17. Hockey players are interesting dudes. Finding just the right mix to win a Cup is hard. The grind of the tournament is hard. There’s a reason it’s pretty much universally agreed that it’s the hardest trophy in sports to win.

You want to harp on how the Penguins are run. Every team has ups and downs. The Penguins know when it’s time to go all in and have done so more successfully than all but a few franchises in all of professional sports in the last 35 years.
You got Cindy after the team went broke again and flirted with a move to Kansas City thanks to empty seats because they were the worst team in the league a few years in a row. The Flyers built arenas and community rinks and got nothing. Yeah that seems fair.

The Flyers never got historically bad. That’s why they are stale. It why the Stillers are stale. I wish the Flyers tanked the past few years. I have no faith in Danny My Son Pushed Someone’s Wheelchair Down The Steps Briere to fix them.

I’m sure the Penguins were still being charitable even during their struggles. That good karma came from somewhere.

      • Saw a list of the wealth of each NFL ownership and the Stillers ownership is dead last at 1.2 billion in wealth. The Denver Donkeys have the wealthiest ownership.

Not surprising because the majority ownership block is spread amongst several members of the Rooney family instead of one household. The Rooneys that are involved with the Steelers also have very few business ventures outside of the Steelers. Its one of the reasons they've remained relatively modest

The second wealthiest ownership group are the Chefs/Refs. Yet they won’t find a new stadium themselves. Mike Hunt is a cheapo.

            • For those not in the Yinzerlands, a wildly entertaining story was discussed on 93.7 The Fan this morning.

Current Steeler (and former WVU player) Beanie Bishop posted an Instagram video of him stomping, wiping and dragging his spikes across the Pitt logo carpet in the Pitt facility (which is shared with the Steelers).

Granted, this is June 4 and they are dying to talk about anything aside from Aaron Rodgers. The hosts Dorin Dickerson (a former Pitt All-American and NFL player) and the other, Adam Crowley, (a WVU frat boy type) obviously took very different spins on it.

Their show (which is at least 40% commercials) is usually what I'd describe as God Awful. However, it was quite interesting today. The phone lines lit up and it got very heated. Talk Radio gold.

Just a guess here, but Mr. Rooney (Steelers boss and huge Pitt supporter) isn't going to be real thrilled with this idiots actions. I suspect Bishop will issue an apology today on social media (at the direction of Mr. Rooney). He's not exactly a star on the Steelers' team (and wouldn't be missed).

I actually think those two are a big upgrade over Dunlap and Mack (though Jim Colony made them tolerable before he retired, he’s a gem). I just want to know if a fistfight between Dunlap and Mack really is what ended their time with the station.

As for Beanie, yeah this is a June 4 football story, a nothingburger. If Art II gets mad about this while he’s sat back and let them team devolve into what it has, then he is truly useless. Wasn’t Beanie a one year mercenary at WVU? I doubt he even cares about Pitt. He did it for clicks as the kids say.

Dunlap was moved to KDKA radio as their morning host doing center-right current events talk, similar but less sensationalist than Marty Griffin.

Yeah I should’ve said ended his time with the Fan, I knew he was doing the news talk with KDKA. But there was a rumor on Twitter when their show ended, seemingly rather abruptly, that Mack had KO’d Dunlap. I think it mostly had to do with Dunlap fancying himself somewhat of a tough guy. I haven’t perused Twitter recently but I think people still give Dunlap crap about it.

                      He's undefeated in the streets.

                      So I hear.

Grew up in the rough, tough neighborhood of Sharpsburg and survived a difficult high school experience attending Fox Chapel. Sharpsburg isn't nice by any means but its not Homewood or McKeesport. He was a genuinely nice guy years ago when he was the Pirates beat reporter at the PG. Once he got on radio he became Mr Crossfit Hampton Township and his wife became a big wig exec with a regional consulting firm. Suddenly a tough guy with money bloated his ego. I believe there was already an altercation of sorts between he and another Pittsburgh sports media person, but I can't recall who.

He and Madden hate each other, but other than Stan Savran Madden eventually hates just about everybody. Filiponi and Mueller occasionally mention Dunlap on their show and it’s pretty obvious they aren’t fans.

The little I’ve seen and heard of his KDKA show I actually kind of enjoy and find myself on his side often. But on a personal level he comes off as a total dink.

The Sharpsburg kids merging with the Fox Chapel types is a pretty interesting dynamic within that district.

                            Quite the extreme.

I don't think all of Sharpsburg goes to Fox Chapel, however. Doesn't a portion of it go to Shaler?

I listened to that as well. It was just a stupid move by Bishop. Pretty childish for a “professional” for sure. He might have just made it a little tougher on himself to make the roster this year.

I'm pretty sure they don't but I could be wrong. Sharpsburg is really just a more working class Aspinwall, which is also Fox Chapel. But there are also poor working class kids who go to Quaker Valley, where Sewickley is, so you have a similar range. But the truly rich in both communities send their kids to private schools. That's the difference between North Allegheny and Mt Lebanon and the other communities with a decent percentage of high income families.
