I think it's a high quality class. Usually when you say it's a high quality class there aren't this many signees. It's a pretty big high quality class, actually. I think the LB might get right into the mix and the WR from New Jersey could see some early playing time. There are some DL signees who could, too, depending on whether they sign some additional transfers for the defense, which I think they have to.

Tort always has a pretty high quality class. He's a good recruiter. Parents love him. He's honest and doesn't come across as a used car salesman. He has stability.

I'm more concerned with the program relearning how to win close games. IUP has lost a lot of games the past several years they never should have - in some really unbelievable ways.

So long as the coin is flowing they'll keep getting good players. I want to see the T's crossed and I's dotted. That's what's been missing in my opinion.

I'm also very interested to see what direction the offense goes now with the upcoming new OC.

Having about 500 humans at the last game and losing at home has left a pretty crappy taste in the mouth.

I remember when Cignetti Sr. would raid the Pitt football teams for kids who didn't play. He got some great athletes that way.

I know its nice to play D1, but there are many great athletes doing D2 and D3.

Frank had a Big East pipeline running straight to Miller Stadium.

I doubt it. Luring somebody here for $60k-ish isn't easy.

If I had to guess the hire will come out of the PSAC or MEC.

Agree with you 100%. I obviously don't know the guy but everything I've heard and witnessed makes me think he comes off as a regular guy who recruits the parents just as much as the player. That goes a long way. And he's got the success to back up everything.

Both have some nice areas.

Both downtowns are stuck in 1970.

Not to mention ... lovely places to drive around November to March.

Altoona isn’t as depressing as Johnstown.

But it’s all “affordable” for a few reasons ..none good.

IUP got two more late signings.

The first is Ryhen Thomas from DePaul Catholic. I'm not sure if he'll be a DB or a WR.

He had a lot of lower-end D1 offers. Not sure the story.


The other is Marquan Carter (same high school). Looks to be a RB/DB.

Not worthy of a thread but Baldwin (5A) is going independent in football for the next two years. Butler did the same thing as it was getting walloped in 6A.

Not a good look but Baldwin's program has hit near rock bottom in a brutal conference.

I’m not sure what the answer is to improve competitive balance in football. It’s a problem in nearly every conference or classification. I’m not sure there is an answer, but just classifying by enrollment numbers certainty isn’t a perfect system, although I don’t know what else you’d use. How kids are counted in a district varies as well. Indiana HS, for example, is 4A but would have probably finished 4th in the Heritage Conference last year, which is made up of 2A and 1A schools. Then there’s the whole boundary vs non-boundary issue.

Some schools just aren’t going to be very competitive in football and maybe would be better off without it. It’s probably the hardest of the sports to turn things around and go from historically weak to highly competitive. Baldwin’s plan to go independent might be a good idea for them.
