Why? Seems like a school Shepherd would dominate in everything....Originally posted by Ram040506 View Post
$53k a year as the sticker price too, less than 1,100 students.
I hated WVW with everything I could muster when I went to school. Couldn't be a better school to have disappear.
...or were they the kind of school that thinks they do no wrong and get all judgy like Slimey Pebble?

When I started at Shepherd, WVW was in the midst of back to back titles in 2002 and 2003. They were a bit brash at the time, like most schools that have success. But their pregame routine was ridiculously arrogant and frankly almost started a brawl with us at least for 3 straight seasons. Right before the coin toss their whole team would spread out across the field, all the way to the opposing teams sideline and they would do this jumping jack routine that seemed to try to intimidate the other team. They stopped doing it once their program went to ****, also we beat the ever loving piss out of them in 2005 and 2006.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post

This is why a lot of the folks on this board refer to them as Jumping Jack U.

I've never been to Shepherdstown so I'm not sure, but, they're on the side of the state away from the bulk of WV's population. West Liberty and Fairmont are the best situated by population standards. Shep might have the best academic profile of the WV state schools but unsure about name recognition. West Liberty has almost no market capital in greater Pittsburgh.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post

FWIW, SRU is already up 10% over this point last year in new student deposits and within the year will possibly go public with major investments in engineering and health & nursing programs.

Wow..all those kids throwing their money away on a diploma that has the same value as the paper products aisle at Costco.Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post

Shepherd, however, is less than two hours from both Baltimore and Washington, so they might have more name recognition in the DMV compared to the more "urbanized" areas of West Virginia.Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post

Very true. Unfortunately not very much immediately surrounding them. A tourism driven region with Harpers Ferry and Charles Town. WV has surprisingly poor name recognition for state schools in their state. I have to assume that most of the state being a network of remote small towns makes things rather provincial in a much smaller scale similar to what you have with SWPA & SEPA being so unlike the other.Originally posted by ctrabs74 View Post

I think it would be fair to question whether WVU even has that much pull in the furthest eastern part of the Eastern Panhandle... and that's supposed to be the flagship university of the state. (I'm not out there, obviously, but I wonder if you can apply that same 'provincial" logic to WVU as well.)Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post

It depends. There's some money in the eastern panhandle, especially near Charles Town (not to be confused with Charleston). I think for those they'd consider private schools or out of state flagships. WVU rarely pulls high capacity students who can afford to go elsewhere. Their admissions profile is worse than Slippery Rock. Just like in PA, middle and working class tend to go state school. All of this is drawn from federal stats (while they exist)Originally posted by ctrabs74 View Post

Question for the group:
I would love to watch IUP vs. Ashland next year. Would that be possible without paying to view?
Thank you,
