Fairmont doesn't surprise me because I guess they didn't want to burn bridges in The Wild and Wonderful and get the snub on the future like Shepherd faces after they left.

Frostburg should have taken the meeting. I know somehow finances are playing some part in it but half of the MEC is on life support institution wise and I can see the schools that are better off jumping to the GMAC or Conference Carolinas in the future. Being basically along the Pennsylvania border just makes sense for them to join the Pee Sack and not some other conference that will induce longer travel.

As for the Home Office In Lock Haven taking The Lackawanna County Community College as a warm body....I can't say that I blame them with the slim pickings to fill the seat. I'd rather have a school in a small city that might offer it local support going foward over small Catholic schools that already have screwed the league over. I mean did we want a parish school in Loretto? No.

The Home Office still has PTSD from The Lake Show being a Judas and going laughably to D1. They didn't want another CW Post that was hard for everyone to get to on Lawnguyland from Pennsylvania.

Ashland would be a nice school to get...but again...it's pretty far into Ohio for most of the Pee Sack schools east of IUP. You would need something near Cleveland/Akron/Youngstowns.

Same with New York...you would want a school in the Southern Tier and no SUNY school is coming...

Mansfield wasn't getting a Sugar Daddy to revive foosball and Cheyney isn't either to revive all of it's sports to the NCAA level.

The Home Office made do....and it could be worse....we could be the GSC and it's three teams left or the GLIAC with two MAC schools and the rest being a group of corpses.

That would be dumb for them since the GMAC is already in the same region as the GLIAC. Why battle the two MAC schools during the regular season when you can pretty much get in to the playoffs every year by being the top dog in the GMAC?

Someone who knows such things told me Frostburg and Fairmont turned down meetings to talk of potentially joining the PSAC. St.Francis was also approached, but they were planning their drop to D3. Talks were held with St. Vincent and Lackawanna, and Lackawanna ultimately got the invite.

Football-wise, I can see Fairmont State not being interested. Joining a division with IUP, Cal and SRU isn't that appealing. They at least have a decent shot in the MEC.

I find it hard to fathom that a mostly Wild and Wonderful based conference has a long term future..the state is not growing. Most of the southern portion of it is a lost cause....the Mon Valley is Beverly Hills in comparison.

Unless these schools attract out of state students...and why would anyone in PA go to those schools when Pee Sack schools are in a better situation....

Shepherd made the right call when they made the move....maybe they aren't as successful but they are in a more stable situation league wise......

Also..the MEC Home Office is in Bridgeport, WV..Was in that town once in 1977..and Fairmont is the closest school to it. That’s probably reason #1 they didn’t want to talk to The Home Office in Lock Haven.

EDIT: The MEC website says it is based in Fairmont. So....if that is true...Fairmont was going nowhere.

St Vincent didn’t even apply for membership. The only school they did was Lack. Can’t accept st Vincent if they don’t fill out an application.

Lackawanna has 2 years to get their facilities upgraded and built. During the spring game they had a big reunion with a bunch of their NFL alum. I was told they donated well over 10 million dollars.

I’ve seen the blueprint, and I have a picture of it, but I don’t want to post it for confidentiality issues. Once completed, I do think it will be one of the better stadiums (no track around it!), to watch a game and they will also be the only school (to my knowledge) with their own indoor football bubble. Fieldhouse will be 3 stories, and it looks like the setup will be similar to Shepherd’s, where Shep has theirs behind the end zone with locker rooms on each side (although this looks much larger).

They own most of the land across the street from Scranton high school. That is where they want to construct this; stadium, fieldhouse, bubble and baseball/softball fields. The hiccup right now is the Taco Bell that is part of that land. Lack put a bid in to purchase it, and are waiting to finalize. Once done, construction will begin. The stadium will be about 2-3 blocks from their football dormitory. And honestly, it’s probably the best place considering there is virtually no open land in downtown Scranton to build this.

if for some situation where Taco Bell doesn’t sell, or they can’t get her last plot of land, they also own the abandoned warehouses behind Scranton memorial stadium, so that would be plan B. Although that is a little further.

on a side note, for all you travelers who want to see them play, the stadium is a 10 second drive off the Scranton expressway so it will be an extremely easy place to get too.

on a side note since this announcement they are completing two new buildings (1 a new construction) and the other one of their 6 story buildings they already owned. This new construction at 409 adams gives them almost that entire block of the city. They also have 2 more buildings that are close by, but they currently have no finalized plan.

Honesdale is a nice little town. A few nice mom and pop restaurants. Also, not many people know this but it’s about a good 25 minute drive away from Woodstock.

The PSAC was desperate for a team to fill schedules rather than actually make the conference stronger, so they found a team equally desperate to move up even though they weren't actually prepared to do so. Lackawanna will get blown out every week in embarrassing fashion and now the door is closed on the PSAC inviting a legitimate program in the future like Frostburg.

Maybe I'll be wrong and Lackawanna will be competitive. I don't think I will be.

You might be right about Lackawanna. It's a big step up. But then I look at a Shippensburg team that has a roster consisting half of freshmen with no seniors. With the ravages of the portal, are some of these teams really all that much farther along than Lackawanna? We're about to find out.

I appreciate the feedback. I forgot about Gannon. I remember when Edinboro was building theirs, and I know it was years ago, but I thought it was to small for the football team to use.

We don't want St Vincent. That school is changing politically in a way that won't jive with public schools. Basically they're trying to be a Catholic version of Grove City. Any attempt at moving to D2 would be purely to try to align better with Duquesne.

Vindication will come in a few years when either the NEC folds or due to lack of money Mercyhurst comes crawling back, but to be honest, I think they'd probably just go D3.

Still do not understand the move to D-1 by the Hurst. Certainly, they had projections that there would be financial stress in the near future? If not, then what does that say about their Board of Directors or perhaps their financial consultants who did the analytical work? Hope it wasn't the school's academic business division as that would say a lot.

It's a strange vibe in the Yinzer half of the state. PSU obviously runs the show in the eyes of most. Pitt and Duquesne folks act like PASSHE schools are community colleges. Carnegie Mellon is so above our schools academically I don't think they even pay attention (or care).

You'd be surprised by the Predsidents' Athletic Conference schools. They all have kind of a 'air' to them, also. In other words, they tend to think they are far above us academically. Because of this, many feel they couldn't compete athletically (with their perceived higher admission standards). They all also have a lot in common. They wouldn't really fit into the PSAC (much the way Seton Hill really doesn't).
