Well last year, Reid, Pringle, and King all entered the portal, but all ended up coming back to GV. Also lost Jay'viar Suggs last year. So out of the impact guys, it is pretty similar.

I don't know, like I understand that as a D2 coach, you kind of have to give players this opportunity these days to have them come to your school in the first place. But two things I think about: 1. There has to be something between forcing kids to sit out a year to transfer schools, and just having it be the wild wild west. Most D2 schools have just become feeder programs for FBS now. But also, 2. how does GV become one of those schools where kids don't even WANT to transfer? Harding isn't losing their best players each year. Ferris isn't losing their best players each year. But GV is constantly having to replace All-Americans and All-Region guys each season. How does GV get high-level talent, while also keeping them in the program when the FBS schools come calling?

Still say that sooner or later the NCAA is going to get smart and put a cap on just how many kids can transfer into a program. Putting a cap on just how many kids can jump into a good program like say Bama will at least limit the damage on down the line for us at the D2 level. Less kids leaving MAC schools for Big Ten Schools means those MAC schools are not needing to replace those players so much.

Comes down to $$$s. I think I get how Harding does it. Not sure about how Ferris does it. Most of the portal kids are looking for the dollars. It's hard to turn down those bucks. Again, I do wonder how Ferris keeps some of that talent.

Really wish local amenities were a bigger factor for recruits; Wayne State and Roosevelt would be world-beaters!

Is Roosevelt's that nice? I haven't looked into theirs.

Nope, it might be the culture that is keeping them there. Or guys go there to play for the national championship and get some NFL visibility due to the program's success. I'm not sure why GV is losing so many top-talent guys, but I think it has to do with money and not doing anything in the postseason.

I think downtown Chicago is pretty nice.

Certain places I would agree. Just have to watch out for all those rats in Chicago haha

Maybe it's culture. It's not NFL visibility. It doesn't matter where you play. You get found. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, GV's last two NFL players have made a combined 100 million dollars.

Like not doing anything in postseason? Ok, sure. It does appear to be money as the main factor. Kids leaving are getting full rides, meals, and some hefty NIL $$s. They go to D1 programs.. at least those that might or do have playing time.

I agree with that. If you play the best and make a long run in the playoffs, I think you bolster your resume. Some players will get recognized regardless. I think the new transfer portal system makes it easy for a guy to jump ship. Ferris had a guy who left for Oklahoma last year and came back. I’m not aware of any other D2 program that had this happen. He wanted to come back to the culture and play for Nattys. For sure it wasn’t the meals and the facilities. Who’s the two guys from GV that you’re referring to by the way? One is probably Judon I’m assuming?

Playing in the postseason is a great experience for athletes as they are all competitive. If you consistently lose at a program and you want to win it all, it’s hard to want to stick with the program for some. Yes, money and meals are a factor. When it’s all said and done, maybe some kids aren’t seeing the things that will last a lifetime with them. When they transfer up, they will find they are sharks that have just entered a larger pool with bigger sharks. How did the GV guy who transferred to LSU this year do? Wasn’t there another guy, too, that transferred to Wisconsin?

Not sure as to how all have done. But people close to them that are outside of GV have typically guided them to leave. Mostly, they have come out ahead. To be fair, there haven't been a ton that have left, but a good one here or there. Likely the most recent was Walker (WR) going to Tex A&M. Add in a lineman or too also. As for the bigger sharks, it still is about significant dollars for these kids. They don't come from well off families and free college AND more than $50k is a big deal. It really isn't about getting that Natty. I can't blame them for going to a different pasture.

Suggs played alot of meaningful snaps throughout the season for LSU. Suggs posted this recently - https://x.com/JayviarSuggs7/status/1865489734488732074

I heard Fourqurean started at CB for Wisconsin.
