Congrats on the new coach. Sounds like a good fit for Pitt.

Name the last Pitt head coach who was NOT promoted from within? and the answer is Coach Fran. That goes back to the early 80's when he took over for Randleman if my memory is correct.

Oops, Fran did not take over for Randleman my bad.

And they lost one regular season game in 5 years under Coach Fran.

It’ll be interesting to see who fills his staff. Also be interesting to see if he is capable of getting the right QB for his system. Just watching highlights on YouTube (which I know are misleading) he seems to be good at getting the ball to playmakers in space with a lot of zone read and rpo. This is an exciting yet nerve racking time to be a gorilla fan. He could be the jolt we need however if he fails it could set us way back and it may be years before we see a quality product on the field. I don’t think Beck left the cupboard bare, and Coach Wright will have some tools to work with when he arrives campus

Interested to get the overall feelings from the Pitt faithful. While he may certainly be a great coach, I’m a little baffled. On the surface he has zero ties to KS, northeast OK, southwest MO, KC, or Wichita. No MIAA ties. His staff can definitely mitigate that, however. 15 years ago FHSU hired Verdugo out of Akron over Beck and that went about as bad as it could have, I don’t think most folks know how wrecked FH was when Brown took over. Speaking of Brown, Pitt has an alumnus coach in the conference, with 45 wins in the last 5 years and you don’t even call him? An interesting hire and process that led to that hire, for sure. It kind of feels like the procedure here was to find a coach with a title at a larger school rather than a tried and true football guy. We’ll see.

Curious as to what he might earn as Pirr State head coach. Was making $148,935 as Toledis offensive coordinator

I think we will get the local connections via one or more local big name hs coaches is my guess....curious to see him introduced, what Pitt State has to say about him and what he has to say about Pitt State. I will say they went outside the box on this hire for sure, time will tell.

Hmm....Isn't that that Verdugo out of Akron Kevin Verdugo who was from Ft. Scott? I also thought Verdugo was head coach at Ft.Scott community college for a period of time. If indeed he has ties to SE Ks etc.

As for Wright, no clue at what ties he has if any and will have to build relationships. The larger question is who he will retain? When 'Boda came to UCM he retained Clemens and that was it. This past year's staff was pretty much all long time Pitt coaches and alumni of Pitt. If the cupboard is emptied, things will become very interesting.

I think Pitt has a great coach now. Dam good pic.he ran a good offense at Toledo. He is also a motivator.
