As for the Verdugo stuff, yeah he was a SE Kansas guy but Beck would’ve been a way better hire, is what I was getting at, due to his W Kansas connections and familiarity with the MIAA. Hindsight is 20/20 but the facts remain.

This may be a great hire, just “different” than the run of the mill MIAA or other D2 head coach pick up. Sometimes bucking status quo is the answer to unlocking a great future. At Hays, it didn’t work when we hired Verdugo, but Pitt is a different animal than early 00s Ft Hays.
Why would we want Brown? I prefer a coach that can win once he makes the playoffs not just get there.

Brown did good to turn around a poor program. Now let’s see if he can take them to the next level before crowning him some great HC.

Im not like some Pitt fans and thought he was the guy to get. Didn’t want him and thought we could do much better. Did we? Time will tell.

That’s totally my bad, meant “tried and true MIAA football guy.” Otherwise, heavens, you folks are getting a touch sensitive by someone throwing out some alternative view points. May wind up being a fantastic hire. Carry on.

        Hope he likes chicken.

Good hire. Toledo guy. Look what Matt Campbell is doing at Iowa St.

This is ignorant. Hays was a complete **** hole when Brown got there and he turned it around. Pitt has managed to tread water at suck territory with every advantage.

Pitt wanted someone with program ties more than anything, but nobody with ties was interested. You threw money at a brand new coach with talent and a good reputation. Nothing is wrong with doing that. NWMSU threw money at a coach with no program ties in the 90s and it worked out well.

But don’t pretend like Pitt wouldn’t have hired Brown or 3 other MIAA head coaches in a heartbeat.

so you know for sure no one with Pitt ties was interested? From what I hear this was the best candidate. An up and coming coach. I understand you like you coach brown but come on.

Responding to hook em is never a good idea. He has a steel plate in his head and a stick in his butt.

i can easily see pitt preferring the guy they hired over cb or rw etc. i can’t think of a third league coach they’d conceivably consider relative to who they hired.
i can also see them offering cb and he turns them down and they end up here eventually
it’s not that clear cut unless you know somebody.
looks like a reasonably fine hire on paper, time will tell but i’d be excited about it
                        Go Bearcats!

Don't pretend like you know. You don't.

Brown is a good coach. He turned around a poor program like I said. Read. But he is not a great coach and a coach that others are salivating over. His teams hasn't won one playoff game. Plus lost to a team that is in the worst conference in this region. I don't call that desirable.

First and foremost this is a strange career move for a guy with Wright's trajectory. This is not a step up. Sideways, at best. FBS coach of some sort or FCS HC would be the next logical step in the progression. He was recently in the discussion to be WRs coach at Michigan. Maybe he has evaluated his situation and doesn't see an opportunity coming for him anytime soon and really wants to be a HC right now. Based on Pitt fan's woe is me diatribes on how they are hurting for funding is he taking a pay cut?

For Pitt, this looks like a home run offensively. He will have work to do to assemble a complimentary defensive staff. Will be interesting to see how his staff comes together.

Anyone attending the intro today on campus? I am not but will be watching online. Excited to hear what he has to say about the program as well as how much he knows about the program. Assume someone will ask about assistant coaches, we will see how much info he gives. I am sure there will be a large crowd today to welcome him, the excitement is growing in Pittsburg and we haven't even heard the guy say a word yet! Good sign of things to come I hope.
