Aw the glory years. Saw Fran's last three years in person and it was truly enjoyable.

On another note, so if Coach Fran was Yoda, what does that make Mel; Obi Wan or Darth Vader? We all know one's answers are based on what team they support.

This is an exciting yet nerve racking time to be a gorilla fan. He could be the jolt we need however if he fails it could set us way back and it may be years before we see a quality product on the field. I don’t think Beck left the cupboard bare, and Coach Wright will have some tools to work with when he arrives campus
Sexton now has the potential to be the real deal in the MIAA. Wright and his spread fast tempo offense, Mac in the shotgun with several young receivers. It’s gonna be an interesting Fall game this year to see how it all gels.

As for Wright, no clue at what ties he has if any and will have to build relationships. The larger question is who he will retain? When 'Boda came to UCM he retained Clemens and that was it. This past year's staff was pretty much all long time Pitt coaches and alumni of Pitt. If the cupboard is emptied, things will become very interesting.
Verdugo was from Pittsburg. He was a year or two ahead of me at Pittsburg High

His staff can definitely mitigate that, however. 15 years ago FHSU hired Verdugo out of Akron over Beck and that went about as bad as it could have, I don’t think most folks know how wrecked FH was when Brown took over. Speaking of Brown, Pitt has an alumnus coach in the conference, with 45 wins in the last 5 years and you don’t even call him? An interesting hire and process that led to that hire, for sure. It kind of feels like the procedure here was to find a coach with a title at a larger school rather than a tried and true football guy. We’ll see.
If you think Brown wasn't asked to apply, you're wrong.

Is this Johnson’s burner acct? I know what I know, and I don’t think Chris was ever a real target.

As for the Verdugo stuff, yeah he was a SE Kansas guy but Beck would’ve been a way better hire, is what I was getting at, due to his W Kansas connections and familiarity with the MIAA. Hindsight is 20/20 but the facts remain.

This may be a great hire, just “different” than the run of the mill MIAA or other D2 head coach pick up. Sometimes bucking status quo is the answer to unlocking a great future. At Hays, it didn’t work when we hired Verdugo, but Pitt is a different animal than early 00s Ft Hays.

i'm not sure why MIAA ties is a prerequisite for some. i like the outside hire. fresh blood, fresh perspective; if he can coach, he can coach. If/when RW ever leaves nw i would hope nw would do a serious national search rather than just next guy up...

A lot of Pitt fans would have welcomed Chris Brown as head coach. The story we heard was that he chose not to apply. I don't know any reason he should make a lateral move. Maybe he wants to go to FCS. Maybe Northern Colorado. They are doing a national search right now.

It's hilarious how when a coach moves up to a 1aa team in An area they have nevet even driven through from d2 people say "he'll do great"

when a coach comes to d2 from a different area, they say "omg he doesn't know all the local farmers, he'll probably explode and die"

Please enlighten us how Wright is not a tried and true football guy?
