He's got a ton of experience on that side of the ball at every level of college football. Regardless of how it all works out, I'm glad Coach Wright didn't take the easy way out and automatically promote Joel to the OC job. I was wrong in thinking there wouldn't be much of a change to the status quo. Hopefully, he's a quarterback whisperer. :)

Joel was the OC....he was demoted back to QB Coach.

QB coach, or would he be Asst. OC assuming that the new guy would want him in that role? I mean, there’s a seriously good mentoring opportunity for JO with the new coach if he wants it ....
Reading some old stories about Coach Sturdy from his time at Eastern Washington and Washington State, his offenses were pass happy. 9th ranked pass offense in Division 1 the year before Leach took the reigns at WSU. It'll be interesting to see if he can turn Brayden Wright into and effective thrower. The other side of that is that with a new OC, it could be an open competition this spring too.
If he is pass happy, I can’t see how BW could be his type of QB. That isn’t to say there will be a change or BW won’t be successful, but it may mean that we don’t see the full extent of his offensive philosophy until he gets his style of QB behind center. It seems like HCRW trended more toward dual threat guys since taking over, so it will be interesting to see if that approach changes over the next couple recruiting cycles.
Regardless, I assume there will be some compromise. HCRW obviously wants more points on the board, but I would think he would still want an offense that can control the ball for extended drives so the D doesn’t get compromised. He takes too much pride in strong defenses to acquiesce to becoming a team that constantly relies on winning shootouts.
On paper, looks like a good get! If it is, hopefully the relationship between he an HCRW makes both want to stick around and rule at/near the top of D2 for a few more years!
