It looks like Northeastern State is building a stronger program and schedule...

    https://goriverhawksgo.com/sports/fo.../schedule/2026

If they continue down this path, when would they be reinstated into the MIAA for football?

The way I understand it, it's up to them. They left on their own for a trial period with the understanding that they could return. I belive the 2027 season was their date to decide.

I think a lot of it will have to do with how much freedom they would have for scheduling. The silo ran them off. It was a bloodbath schedule that made it nearly impossible for weak teams to build their way up. No money games with D1s. No easyish games for a bad team to put a few wins on the board and entice recruits. Not much to sell potential donors on.

I think some of it may also depend on how hard it will be to make the playoffs as an indy team. If they can make the playoffs, I think they stay indy and/or explore other conferences

Heard the opposite; football AD's don't want them back. They like the current 9 league /2 non-con split and I believe 2027 and 2028 schedules are done and won't include them. NSU, get ready to learn GAC!

Are 3 bye weeks including back to back off weeks normal?

Schedule is a work-in-progress, they're still looking for games. I know the Week 0 Delta State game was only added within the last week.

This is very informal chatter but hearing they are looking to fill the last two openings with Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State.

I don't want them back either if it means non conference games go away. If there's a way around that, I'm all for them coming back.

Add 1 more game like the big boys. 10 conference games and 2 noncons.

That Delta state game got added this week.

Listen if we can't make the playoff with this schedule then we don't have a chance as an independent to ever make the playoff. Lol

I'm kind of at a loss to be honest with you what's happening because when they added all those sports kind of looks like they were positioning themselves to take a run at the glvc. Which I would actually like but I just can't see that going down.

They wouldn't join the GAC unless they had a partner. And I don't see anybody around who wants that. I can't see them joining the lone Star unless the lone Star kicks out Central Washington and Western Oregon. Is the lone Star just added Texarkana who's going to start football in a season or two.

This obsession with everybody playing each other is what's holding everything up. Maybe we can go back to MIAA and not have to go around silo. But like I said over 10 years ago who cares who wins the conference it's about getting into the playoffs

                        Great Summary.

Any rumors on the remaining 2 teams (hopefully D2) for the schedule?

My in the loop guy hasn't heard. He doesnt know this staff as well I'm afraid. But we could definitely use a couple gimmie games that schedule is something else.

                          West Alabama
                          Delta state
                          Utpb
                          West Florida
                          Mckendree
                          William Jewell
                          Msst

                          Then Stephan F Austin
                          And Northern Colorado.

I love Midwestern and UCO on that schedule. Even if things aren't as good as last year we can still finish around 500.

I guarantee after last season they probably wouldn't want to let us in. We're bigger than most of the universities.

I don't know why y'all think the GAC are unhappy because they get exactly what they want which is a good D2 conference with minimal cost and maximum exposure. They don't mind taking the whipping from Harding because it proves the conferences overall profile and National exposure.
