The portal isn't a friend to any school, unless you make it so. If WT is going to play the victim card, it's going to be a long next few seasons. WT has a long history of victim mentality on many levels. Head coaches shouldn't be responsible for putting together NIL. That is outside monies from the university and should be the responsibility of boosters that care and are willing to step up financially, not just a group of old men wearing WT hats talking about the good old days. Does WT have a legit bedrock of financial support out there? I wonder.

It doesn't appear so. Personally, I wish I could help, but we've got businesses to run that just aren't throwing off tens of thousands of dollars of discretionary cash.

I didn't ask him for details on the potential OC hire, ie system or style. It's certainly easier today to find air raid kids out of Tx HS ball. Looking back at the air raid system Bane ran last year at WT, I think Lynn will give his new OC plenty of rein. Remember, whatever system WT runs, Lynn doubles as the OL coach. Personally I prefer @ a 60 pass/40 run style with lots of RPO from a mobile QB.

Back in the Carthel Air Raid years it was like a blitzkrieg offense at the time. Defenses have caught up.

Yeah if you are going to go any type of air raid or running game for that matter, you are going to have to have an good OL that can be able to accommodate both.

WT improved but was still beaten pretty easily by the powers of the region (Western Colorado, UTPB, and Central Washington) and the OC in those games were outcoached badly.

That Angelo State game I am throwing out as an outlier since it was a meaningless game for both teams.

I would be looking for diamonds in the rough on the OL and RB.

This is a great unfiltered response of what I have been thinking.

Peeps under 30 arent going to know what it was like to have a great football team so there isnt likely any incentive there to hit up those folks.

The ones that do have the pockets are going to be feeding the worms in the next 5-10 years.

I will say that it is Lynn's responsibility to an extent to go out there and help pull on some of the donors strings.

At some point When Wendler is gone and the AD wants to start winning, he will find a coach that can make that happen in all aspects.

Coach Lynn pulled up alongside me at last night's BB game for a nice long chat. He will be announcing a new OC in the next day or two. Portal not being a friend to WT. Several players getting FCS offers (and NIL money). For example, OL going to SFA for $40,000. WT needs to step up efforts to put together some NIL, even meager amounts. Lynn said 5 or 6 D2 schools were doing some pretty decent amounts of NIL. And it shows in the playoff teams.

If NCAA D2 votes for 5th year this week, Martinez can come back for 1 more year, but only at the D2 level. Same for WR Sean Johnson.

I think as long as a school is willing to pay for a player's (formerly student-athlete) services (a scholarship counts as pay), and they can pass 9 hours a semester of classwork, they should be able to play as long as both parties are willing. Why not 6,7,10 years? You know, today's environment.

Hmm. Maybe even omit the classroom necessity. Let the school just hire it's athletes to hell with that niggling classroom BS.

My point was, he already got in FIVE years, how can he possibly expect another? I don't think being a grad student, medical student, or being a buffoonish university president will get you another year of eligibility.
