I'm hearing some interesting (quite encouraging) things from Buff football land. Several D1 transfers. 6 or 7 from Power 5 schools. Heavy on WRs. One coach is said to have claimed one WR "will be the fastest WR in D2." Some big OLs. A couple prime time LBs. And finally, if things work out, a couple legit edge rushers. WT hasn't had a good edge player since Carthel. Basically, WT is getting a good haul from the portal. The new OC seems to be a helluva recruiter. Expect a wide-open offense with all those WRs deployed in patterns. A very QB friendly offense. So I hear.

WT had 38 seniors, so a lot of schollie money is available.

There is no other season than this season.

One could say any conference outside the Power 4 is a low bar these days. At least it would still be regional and not have road games in Washington State and Western New Mexico.

Counterpoint. Do you really think a 5 star recruit is going to really seriously consider Tarleton over A&M?
If NIL is better, absolutely. But it's not the 5 star recruit you need to worry about.

Thanks for the info. I knew it was somewhere in that range. Glad I was underestimating.

Yep. I am a firm believer to this day if they would have just handled the Rangers tickets situation differently, whoever slept on a couch?, etc. and kept Carthel then the university would have certainly be over 15,000+ students by now and a competitive member of the Southland in all sports.

Ironically there have been more WT NCAA infractions since Carthel left than when he was here.

As you said now we have Wendler and the party is over.

Clearly, you are getting misinformation on Tarleton going FBS. Sharp and a slew of Aggie higher ups are all in.

You don’t push funding for a underling to get a Stadium remake and a multimillion dollar convention center/ basketball arena to stay in the lower tiers of D1.

Not only does Tarleton have PUF access A&M backing but they have big money alums like Mike Meyers. Don’t forget the most famous military Aggie is also a Tarleton alum Gen Rudder.

Personally I think Tarleton is a great FCS fit and a perennial top 10 football school in FCS.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are a CUSA or Mountain West school in two years.

Well, unless your Wendler of course

Anyone who is accepted could move to FBS, the question is will they just be a toilet bowl waiting to get sh!t on?

I mean what would you want to be the trophy fish in a pond or the bottom feeder in a lake?

To be competitive in P4, you need $100 million +, and to have a shot at a national title in P4, you need to be in the $200 million club. That is about 8 programs, and they will be your national champions from now on, as they are operating fully professional teams, and with essentially no salary caps. Everyone else in P4 is playing exhibition games.

I hear all the time that WT needs to move up, mostly from people that don't give anything to the school. You've either got to have 15,000 students to tax, or a huge grassroots support of boosters and season ticket holders. WT has none of the three, though for D2, they aren't in a bad place.

And it will even grow more in the 2025-2026 year as the requirement for the Tarleton Promise will change from graduating in Top 25% of HS class to Top 50% of HS class. You are getting kids coming from crap HS's where their top 50% is equivalent to the bottom 20% in good schools like Westlake, Southlake Carroll, Coppell, Frisco Liberty, etc. As long as they keep giving away free tuition, fees, meals, and books, look for enrollment to continue to skyrocket.

And the acceptance rate % will continue to to drop because you have 20k+ applying each year. The current rate has dropped to 57% watch next year...it will probably drop even more.

It is a brilliant plan to grow the university, it's reputation, and popularity. Once it gets so big and popular, they can drop the Tarleton Promise to programs more like A&M or UT have.

I am curious if A&M will allow Tarleton to become an FBS competitor. All the talk I hear is A&M BOR will never allow that to happen. I'm not sure Tarleton could do that anyway. Not deep enough pockets in my opinion.
