WT Football

For those in need of a WT feed:

I had a chance to go to FB practice yesterday. There were about 80 suited up and maybe 5 walking wounded. I counted 5 QB, 7 RB, 12 OL, 16 TE/WR. 13 DL, 9 LB, 16 DB, 2 kickers. Probably missed 1 or 2.

It was the usual practice. Groups then into teams. Practice finished in the stadium. QBs looked good. RB Hibbler can scoot. Kicker, kid from Midland I believe, made 6/6 from 32 and 42, 1/2 from 52 with a bit of 10mph crossing wind.

After practice, Coach came over for a visit. He said WT would sign several in the portal. Looking for ILB, IDL, OL, and WR.

QBs back are Sean Johnson, Knox Porter, Landyn Hack plus Zach Zembrowski and the guy from Tyler JC (started last 5 games last year). Zembrowski is a 5th year grad transfer from Central Missouri, who followed our new OC. 2 year starter, last year's team went 9-3. 158 QB rating, 372 comp 553 att, 40 TD, 393 ave yd, 12 int. There will be a very competitive QB room.

WT lost 35 seniors. Lot of spots to be filled. I'll hit a practice early next week. Can't make it to the 6pm spring game this Fri (gotta be in Ft. Worth to watch grandson play BB-his team's 9-1 and he's ave 17 a game of his team's 26 ave-8 year olds-ha! had to brag). We are going to the Friday Apr 4 game in Pueblo 4pm CST.

WT has the 2 time reigning Harlon Hill Winner Zach Zebrowski on the roster???

That should be the end of the competition right there and he is the starter.

Everyone else can be moved to different skill positions and utilize their speed.

Too bad they can't move Sean Johnson to receiver. He's athletic and fast, just not a good QB.

He made a run yesterday that boggled me. He is so fast in space......!

I am as optimistic about that statement as Jerry Jones is about Dak and the Cowboys. I would love to be proven wrong.

I was told WT’s spring game is March 28 at 6 pm. Then on April 4 or 5, the Buffs are going to Pueblo to scrimmage CSUP.

I recently had a nice chat with our AD. He fervently said WT football will be better than people are thinking they will be. He didn't seem to have any doubt. We'll see. I'm going to try and make a couple practices tis week.

I'm hoping Optimist Prime will have some uplifting reports on Spring Training because I am expecting yet another sub .500 season.

I've never heard of GONO TREDAME before. Besides, I thought you went to Wossamotto U ! ;) Below is a fascinating video about the school and how it got its new on-campus stadium!

I did attend Wossamotto U, before ND, but was expelled for getting a 4.0.

Looking over last years results, I just don't have a lot of optimism for the 2025 season. WT only beat 1 team with a winning record - Kingsville. However it was the Peccaries imploding that cost them that game, not anything WT did. They had a lot of dropped passes, some in the end zone, only to go 0-4 on FG attempts. One of WT's touchdowns was a recovery in the end zone.

WT had no chance against CWU or Angelo; both were blowouts. UTPB's second half game plan was evidently "run out the clock". It worked.

I think we knew it was going to be a long season when WT led Sul Ross by only 7 points in the 3rd quarter of that game.

Maybe once Sharp and Wendler are gone, WT will have a chance, but right now it's depressing.

If and when Wendler retires, if and when the new president has a quality AD, if and when said AD has a quality coach staff, if and when the school allows the athletic department to function as it should.

We could have a quality staff right now, but how would we know with the shenanigans going on in admin?

Dig me up when it all gets sorted. Might be a long winter for WT athletics.

Now the cats out of the bag on my alma mater.

It was so funny, I just got kicked out of OT last week...one of the "guys" thought he "found" me and who I actually am. Said he found some healthcare person matched to a player on an Angelo State roster. It was HILARIOUS!!!! I didn't correct him. You know I love the mystery. Haha.

I tried to keep my undergrad alma mater secret since 2009. Oh well, 16 years isn't a bad run. Ha.

I agree with ASU Pops you used to see D2 schools rosters loaded with former DI players now that is very rare. Since DI players don't have to sit when they transfer there is no reason to transfer down to the D2 Level anymore. The D2 Portal scene is more of a musical chair game with players moving from one DII school to the next DII school and a lot players getting left with no chair when the music stops.

Yeah I have gotten in debates from "facebook football experts" that have their own page and blog that think Notre Dame will win. I countered its likely to be a blowout base on Notre Dame not being able to keep up with the Ohio State offense. I hope it comes to pass so I can collect receipts.
